The Tigers' best drive in the first game was at the end of the 1H, doing a no-huddle with a sense of urgency. (Recall that this worked against Oregon too). Would it make sense to try this early to catch the Bama D off-guard?
Yep. I said this in another thread. The LSU offense got very good at the uptempo attack in preparing the defense for Oregon. There's no better way to wear down the big front 7 than by executing this early and often.
We should use the hurry-up offense from time to time to complicate Bama's attempts to deceive and confuse the offense, an old Saban tactic. "Don't line up where you expect to be when the ball is snapped", he has said. But when LSU takes a serious lead, they will take their time and run long, time-consuming drives and deny the Bama offense an opportunity to get back on the field.
I actually expected us to go hurry-up in the first Bama game because of how much we'd practiced it in preparation for Oregon. That would still be a new twist, and we have time to practice it. I do agree that we'd quickly revert to "grinding it out" if we were to get a lead.
Hurry up offense....I think that's where Lee comes in. I bet they've been working on a series of no huddle for Lee and they didn't want to give Bama any film of Lee in the Georgia game...thus the Knee at the end. Maybe Mettenberger as well ??
Well, if it's "no film" you want, why not have Mettenberger come in for a few rotations as well? That will give LSU fans quite a taste of what to expect next year.
