Cool, glad to see you back with power...check all your shrubs around the house, on dry land....Water Moccasins love carports and shrubs.
Hell, that's bigger than Nootchs. You better get on it though, he has quite a home field advantage.
Yea I know...Im in Houston now...I Miss hanging out in the Marshes, and Atchafalaya Basin, I try to hit the swamps every trip back home.
Parents in North Denham got power Monday afternoon, Out-laws in South Denham got it Sunday evening. Ben McDonald lives down the road from Out-laws, must have built in generator, every light in the yard and house was on the whole time. Never understood why the "free supplies" line was so long in Denham Springs, Walmart was open and had everything as all these people sat in a 2 mile long line for ice and water and watched me carry all this BS to my truck. :geaux:
Hey Nootch, I am so glad to see you back. I am also glad to hear that your damage was not real bad. I have been so worried about you and your family.
My parents mentioned the same thing and figured that the word "free" is just irresistable to some people--but Walmart was open. Nootch, we're glad to have you back. Lprimo, what's the word on evacuations around Houston this morning?
"free supplies"...hmmm.....yeah the "free" part is a bit irresistable to many, but.... maybe people waited because they spent all of their money before the storm and have now reached a point where they need ice and food and don't have money to buy it... maybe they couldn't afford a generator and lost everything in their refrigerators and freezers and know that every little bit of "free" will help them get through until they get paid again and can slowly begin to restock their losses... maybe they are faced with property loss and know they need every bit of "free" they can get because it may be awhile before things even begin to be normal for them again... sure there are some who go just because it's free, but there are many who go because they don't have the money (and won't have it until this friday or next week or whenever they get paid again) to go buy what they need in walmart....i know this is the case....many people live paycheck to paycheck and barely make it stretch...a disaster like Gustav knocks a serious hole in funds availability for anyone whose life and circumstances have them in such a financial place... anyway....just some thoughts......
Well you might have a point, but when I see people sitting in brand new cars/trucks and don't appear to miss ANY MEALS despite hurricanes, tornados, wars, electricity, lack of food, whatever, perhaps they chose to spend their money somewhere it wasn't needed. Somethings NEVER change in places like Denham Springs. You gotta want things to change before you can make things change. You are preaching to the choir in my case, married at 17, father at 18, (still married to same woman), earned a 4 year ship to LSU, 12 college degrees spread over myself, wife and 3 kids. It didn't take me long to figure out what I didn't want to be. In the 35 years I have had relatives in that area the mindset has never changed. To those that really needed the stuff, more power to them, to those that got their free ice and water and spent the $10.00 they saved on a lottery ticket, perhaps they were the reason the center was shut down for lack of manning and those that REALLY NEED HELP now will drive to Livingston.:geaux:
