Looking for any intel from anyone that has/heard of how the travel back into Baton Rouge/Denham Springs from points north of BR (SHV, DFW). Looking to bring supplies in from DFW area to parents, in-laws, others with lots of tree damage. I know it will be slow going but I am wondering what the availability of gasoline (most stations have generators and supply?) etc etc. Didn't make this trip after Katrina, any vet Hurricane Vets have any info???
I've heard that gas is going to be scarce. My parents had trouble finding it on Saturday night when they evacuated up here. My husband and I went to Baton Rouge on the Thursday after Katrina had hit on Monday, and we didn't have trouble--but Baton Rouge was not hit nearly as hard, apparently, during Katrina--though you wouldn't know it by the media blasting the message that this storm was minor league.
The media is filled with idiots still thinking the Baton Rouge dodged the big one since no storm surge came into the city with Gus. Also, I have heard more than once about how rain may test the levees. They just don't get it. I remember before K hit, there was a young lady from TWC down on the MS gulf coast, filming on the beach the night before. She noticed a little water rise, and it was raining. She actually stated that the gulf was starting to feel the effects of this rain, and had begun to rise as a result!
I can't get through to anyone in BR. All cell towers are non functional. I sense they are out of power across the city. We have family out on Highland near CCLA where flooding is a big problem. Also family in Concord off of College. We received a brief harried message from our father in law who lives in concord that he had never seen anything like it and they had major damage. he called in the middle of it before power went out. I'm heading down there this weekend to help clean up.
My siter called from Baton Rouge and said that it was worse than Betsy in baton Rouge. Please pm me or let me have a link to wheher i can get to Baton Rouge from Mobile? I have 2 Generators and 60 gallons of gas and portable air conditions to try to get to family. Any help is appreciated
wjbo.com is giving good info concerning everything that is going on in B.R. Roads open, gas stations, etc. I have been listening since yesterday and it helps me because I have 2 brothers and a dad there I can't get in touch with. Stay safe to everyone down there.LSU!LSU!LSU!
Our phones in DFW (Sprint/ATT) have been sporadic, landlines in BR/DS appear to be down. Texting has worked with all companies to/from BR/DS/AEX relatives even when they/we can not talk on phones. www.lsp.org for some road updates from State Police. As someone said, Direct TV has a NO station broadcasting non-stop and has updates across the screen on different issues. Ch 361/2/3 depends on your area. Good luck, see you at the chain saw party. Go Tigers!! Ain't no stinkin storm gonna stop us!
