Re: How will we do this season? Your thoughts... The 4 non conference games will all be easy and dominating wins. So the focus once again is how we do in SEC play: W vs Vandy W @ Miss St W @ UGA ? vs Florida W vs Auburn ? @ 'Bama ? @ Ole Miss W vs Arky The 5 games I am most confident about are marked with W's. I think Georgia goes through the growing pains we did last season and I see us taking that game. So that leaves 3 games that will make the difference between 9-3 and 12-0. My guess is a win at Bama (our defense will be coming into it's own by then and we will rattle a raw QB into some critical mistakes. The other 2 games are coin flips. It will be interesting to see if Ole Miss lives up to the hype by the end of the season. We could easily be facing a 5-5 or 6-4 team that struggled all season. So it may not be the tough game we are thinking it's going to be. Nonetheless, it is Ole Miss and they do play us tough a good bit of the time no matter what the records of the teams are at the time. I will go with 10-2. I will say Ole Miss beats us but has 3 losses in SEC play and our win vs Bama breaks the tie (both 2 losses) and sends us to the SEC Championship vs. undefeated #1 ranked Florida.
well, not to nitpick, but i did say "dominant." :hihi: "blowout" is something different. i really think that we have too many options on offense. maybe i'm being overly optimistic, but i see good things from our offense. i mean just look at the damn weapons. botched plays and drops/fumbles is what always worries me. i think our QB will be good enough to take advantage of the situation. again, we don't need a play maker at QB, just someone to utilize our arsenal. of course, i'm eager to see how jj responds under pressure. will he try to make a huge play himself (i.e. run, run, run,) or will he dump it off to a playmaker. looks guys, i know i'm preaching to the choir, but just look at the weapons! TE dickson is the best in the country, plus shephard, lafell, randle, tolliver, scott, williams, murphy, calhoun (i expect huge things one day,) ford, ridley, holiday, JJ is a playmaker as well. and what about rj jackson? guys, i mean come on!
The 3 teams we have to be most concerned about are Florida, Bama and Georgia in that order. So 9-3 is a real possibility, but I am hoping for 10-2 at worst.
This season I see us having a year somewhere in the 10-3 to 11-2 range including the bowl game. Possible losses: UF, @Alabama, @ Ole Miss. I think the bama and ole miss games go either way. Give us a split with both of them and I think we are an 11-2 team.

Lafell, Tolliver and Randle have big years. Defensively, this is all on the Chief Chavis. Our DL is probably the weak point of the team for the first time in 10 years. We will need a couple of the youngsters to step up and play this year. It should be an exciting time.
UGA will be VERY good. They'll strongly contend for the East with Florida and that will be a tough game for us.
Just curious...based on what, exactly? They weren't VERY good last year and then proceeded to lose much of their offensive firepower. Did their defense that let us score 35 some-odd points on them with JL get better?
There will be a lot of teams in the SEC starting new QB this year. Several of them will be on our schedule- Miss St, UGA, 'Bama, Arky, and potentially Auburn. Does Vandy return its starting QB from last year? My point is- I expect UGA and 'Bama to struggle some this year, sort of like we did last year. I really believe we have a shot at winning the West if 2 of these 3 things happen: 1.) We split with UGA/Florida 2.) Win at 'Bama 3.) Someone beats Ole Miss Not to get too far ahead, but our Week 11 match-up @ Ole Miss could decide the division winner. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
I'm still not sold on the greatness that is Ole Miss. I'll give them a good, experienced QB. Fine. However, they lost two first round draft choices off of their '08 team. First round draft choices don't grow on trees in the Grove (unless their name is Manning.) Those guys may be incredibly hard to replace. Not to mention that Houston Nutt is their coach.
This is exactly my line of thinking. UGA is annually over-rated going into the season, and at no time was that more true than in 2008. Pre-season #1, and look how they ended up. So if that was Richt's best chance at having an elite team, and given the fact that the two studs who were responsible for drawing most of that hype are gone, why should we think that they'll be any better this year? He always fields a solid team, that's for sure. But I think that we'll be markedly better this year, and it's no secret that they'll be searching for an entirely new identity on offense.
