My point is that, by no means, is LSU a QB factory (and never has been); however, there's more to a football team's success than a QB. (This is not to imply that we don't have a serious QB problem right now.)
How many QBs has St Nick delivered to the NFL???? I realize you're not on of his worshippers but the point is the QB isn't the foundation of a CF NC. Look at the BCS era. How many QBs who won NCs besides Scam are leading NFL teams? They need to be serviceable al la Mauck & Flynn or Gay J etc but the Lucks et al haven't been winners in college. It is a team that wins not a QB. Yes our QB performance has been lacking since Flynn ( I include Mett) but a NFL QB Isn'T a must to win a CFBNC. To make a NFL QB a requirement to win NCs is a false measure.
Not about the NFL. We are talking about LSU. How many college teams win a NC with shit for a QB? I'm gonna go with zero. You don't need a world beater, but you need someone that can play the position. This of course is not the rule in the NFL. See Trent Dilfer
Don't dissagree but you set the NFL draft standard. We do need a good game manager with the will and ability to pull a game out every once in awhile. We haven't had one since Flynn. Mett wasn't and missed too many opportunities. A super star sometimes deflects the team from being the best. Look at Peyton, Marino & Favre all superior talents but too much is/was focused on them at the expense of the team. Brady as an e ample is a team player even as great as he is. We don't need a star QB just a winner.
Remember the names? Craig Krenzel, Josh Heupel, Ken Dorsey, Leinart, Chris Leak, McElroy, McCarron, Mauck, Vince Young? Most of these QB's never got drafted or were drafted later rounds. Many never played in an NFL season game. The 10th pick overall Leinart, has been called a major bust in the Pro's. Many won the NC with 4 or 5 years in a college system.
They may not have been drafted, but they were servicable college QB's. We're having a very difficult time finding anything close to serviceable most years. A couple on your list were even Heisman candidates. When's the last time we had a QB anywhere close to that?
What wins in college isn't necessarily what works in the NFL. There's a long list of QB's who've won a NC title but had a very short pro career. Hell even Tebow could complete a short pass. No teams win a title with a poor one though.
