Odell Beckham Jr. might go down as the greatest WR in LSU history

he had 41 receptions for 475 yards last season as a true freshman

when is the last time a freshman has done that great?

--Early Doucet only had 18 receptions for 257 yards when he was a freshman

--Rueben Randle only had 11 receptions for 173 yards when he was a freshman

--Terrance Toliver only had 10 receptions for 249 yards when he was a freshman

--Dwayne Bowe only had 9 receptions for 106 yards when he was a freshman

--Josh Reed only had 8 receptions for 134 yards when he was a freshman

--Eric Martin only had 8 receptions for 78 yards as a freshman

--Skyler Green only had 7 receptions for 123 yards as a freshman

--Craig "Buster" Davis only had 7 receptions for 63 yards as a freshman

--Brandon LaFell only had 5 receptions for 140 yards as a freshman

--Devery Henderson only had 1 reception for 2 yards during his freshman and sophomore years, and as a junior, he only had 23 receptions for 447 yards

this is my favorite OBJ touchdown: at the 1:22 mark -- help me figure out how many defenders he beats -- looks to me that he catches it, beats one defender (#14 CB Anthony Mosley), beats a 2nd defender (#31 S Mikie Benton), then a 3rd defender (the guy with dreadlocks), then a 4th defender (#94 DE Taylor Wyndham), then a 5th defender (#24 CB Randall Burden), then a 6th defender (#31 S Mikie Benton again) and takes it in for the TOUCHDOWN for the TIGERS!!!! ... with Kentucky players left lying scattered across the field in his wake!!!

    some other OBJ highlights:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-_a0Qxt2IM"]LSU Freshman Odell Beckham Jr. Shines Early - YouTube[/ame]

he wore #3 as a high school superstar at Newman (youtube is full of highlights from him at Newman)

but Jakhari Gore wore #3 last year and the year before. but Gore is now gone...so does that mean OBJ comes out next year in the legendary #3 worn by Kevin Faulk, Chad Jones, Buster Davis, etc??? I HOPE SO!!!!

    well, let's see

WR Tim Brown won it in '87, and he only had 28 catches for 340 yards as a freshman

    and

WR Desmond Howard won it in '91, and he only had 9 catches for 136 yards as a freshman

OBJ did better than both of them as a receiver last season

as a returner, OBJ returned 9 punts and 5 kickoffs and also had 2 rushes for a total of 691 all-purpose yards...which is more than the 475 all-purpose yards Tim Brown had as a freshman and more than the 442 all-purpose yards that Desmond Howard had as a freshman, so I won't be surprised to see OBJ turn out to be greater than both of them.

He should definitely benefit from improved QB play that's for sure. The fact that Rueben is gone may also benefit him.

Improved QB play would help tons, but I'm not so sure the loss of RR helps. He definitely looks like the go to guy now and will get much more defensive attention. If he continues to improve and we can throw the ball he has the potential to be a great one. He definitely looked sharp early in the season. Of course much of this depends on Miles willingness to throw the ball. I also look for Jarvis Landry to come on strong this coming season.

To some extent, having more quality WRs on the field at the same time actually benefits OBJ because it will pull some coverage away from him because they have to account for the other guys.

Having said that I look forward to seeing OBJ having Patrick Peterson's little brother and Richard Dickson's little brother all on the field at the same time!

You have to go back to 2001 and Michael Clayton, he had 47 catches his freshman season. Part of a freshmen's production can be attributed to the quality and experience of the upperclassmen on the team and Beckman benefited from that this past season and Clayton did as well back then. But I do think both came in a college ready athletes and both would have seen the field even if more seasoned players were on the team.
