Miss St also used both their All-American pitchers (Mitchell is now 13-0 and Holder got save #19 of the season) Two-time All-American Conforto was 4-for-4 for OSU All Americans Renfroe and Frazier were 3-for-8 for Miss St "i can't wait to get to the pizza buffet to celebrate!"
For indiana, the junior Joey DeNato gets career win #24 in amazing fashion, throwing a complete game shut out before a crowd of 27,122. He held Louisville to 4 hits (.143 batting avg), K'd 8 of them, all while throwing 136 pitches. MSU's walrus was so excited he couldn't sleep last night. At 2:36 a.m., he tweeted: All I can say is that was awesome. Bulldog Nation made TD Ameritrade feel like the Dude! Lets keep this thing rollin! #HAILSTATE
Even MSU's football coach is praising the walrus: Dan Mullen @CoachDanMullen 9:38 p.m. Sat, Jun 15 Way to go Wes Rea
Indiana pitcher Joey DeNato tweeted this morning: Joey DeNato @jdenato5 5:33 a.m. Sun, Jun 16 Thank you everyone, especially Hoosier nation, the fans, and my family for making out to Omaha. Couldn't thank you all enough! #Hoosiers Everybody is raving about DeNato: Baseball America calls him a "hero" and writes: DeNato was masterful, throwing a four-hit shutout ... DeNato is a proven winner with a long track record—he went 7-3, 2.80 as a freshman and 7-3, 3.22 as a sophomore. He’s been even better as a junior, improving to 10-2, 2.52 after Saturday’s gem. ... DeNato’s previous season-high for pitches in a game was 122 in his final regular-season start at Ohio State on May 16. He threw 130 pitches through eight innings Saturday, and Smith sent him back out for the ninth. He rewarded his coach by breezing through a 1-2-3 final frame on just six pitches, to finish at 136. ... So Indiana advances to Monday’s winners’ bracket game against Mississippi State with its pitching in outstanding shape, thanks to DeNato. “I realize we asked a lot of him tonight, his pitch count being 136,” Smith said. “But this is the time of year I think everybody would agree you ask a little bit more of your guys.” The Hoosiers couldn’t have asked for any more from DeNato. Louisville coach Dan McDonnell: " he handcuffed us. And when he had to make pitches, he made pitches.” "Yeah, I guess no matter what, we're not going to have to see him again in this tournament, so that's a bright spot," Louisville coach Dan McDonnell said. "He's just very effective. If you notice, I think we hit one line drive out, and it was Ty Young's line drive in the second. We just didn't put any balls in play hard. He could really jam you, and he has now handcuffed us twice this season." Perfect Game: The Hoosiers left absolutely zero doubt Saturday night as they were dominant in a 2-0 win over Louisville, the third win over the Cardinals this season. ... Joey DeNato once again shined... ...DeNato was simply fabulous... He was dominant... piecing together a performance that would remind CWS fans of some of the starts we saw from former South Carolina left-handed pitcher Michael Roth over the past few seasons. From the get-go, DeNato was in complete command. Though not an imposing pitcher, DeNato mixed in a fastball that sat anywhere from 85-88, along with a curveball, that at times, was a plus pitch in the 73-74 range. DeNato finished the contest with eight strikeouts, only getting sharper as the game progressed. "That was huge [the complete game]. Our mindset coming into the game was to stay in the winner's bracket. If we had to use Monday's starter, we were going to do it," Smith said. "So I think anytime -- we just talked about that. When you have a tournament format such as this, it's such a grind, so it was huge for him to come out and do this. We could save our bullpen and keep guys fresh."
vs UNC, NC State had 7 different guys get an RBI, and the 2 guys that didn't get an RBI are the two best hitters on their team
Louisville goes two and BBQ, getting hammered 11-4 by OSU.
