tiga, from what I understand a lot of the publicity dealing with Saban was of his own doing. He constantly had his name thrown in the ring at job openings around the NFL while at LSU. And then it happened again while he was at Miami. Where there is smoke there is fire any good reporter knows.

Another factor that came into play from my understanding is that he would lecture the media in Miami and the pros down there did not take kindly to it. He basically held court and was the judge and gave the reporters very little in the form of information on the team. He closed practices. Didn't give them access to coaches. He generally just wasn't very likable. That I think led to a lot of Nick's problems with the media when the Alabama situation came up.

Saban had essentially made an enemy of the local media, and they fanned the flames of the Alabama situation and got to put Nick on the hot seat for a change when he accepted the job with the Tide after vehemently denying he would do so.

Not saying in essence what it is suggested Les did is any different from what Nick did other than perhaps the very different ways they went about it and the size of the spotlight that was on them. As they say you should treat those you see going up the ladder well because you just might see those same folks on the way down the ladder.

    Priceless!

I think this may be the first time I've seen pros and media in the same sentence. Considering it was mostly LeBetard makes it even more funny!

Well, Nick is Nick. He's not a warm and fuzzy guy and he's very wary about the media. He was like that at LSU, too, not caring about popularity. The media really didn't like him personally, they hated it that they had less information about the team, but they did accept what he was doing because he was winning. He wasn't winning at Miami and Nick found out what happens when you are unpopular and not winning.

Just like Les could benefit from a public speaking course, Nick could benefit from a public relations course.

Interestingly enough, the reporters I know around the program (that are worth a damn) don't mind the way CNS is in his pressers. The have the ability to ask smart questions and read between the lines in what he's saying. It's not that difficult. Personally, I understand a lot of what he's saying in the pressers.
