I think Miles has a very tough decision to make. The reason is that if he really is serious about giving this LSU team the best shot at getting to and winning the NC game, he almost have to decide right NOW, or soon enough, to stay. If he drags on, it can only affect the coaching staff's focus, and also the heart of the players to play their best; ask the seniors about that. I strongly believe a significant part of the game is psychological/emotional, and it is amazing how much better the team can play in the proper mindset. Someone posted before that statiscally, the teams in bowl games end up not winning when they are faced with a departing coach. This happened to Oklahoma St. before Miles came to LSU. I hope Miles would understand this. For him personally, it almost is like seriously going after the NC , or lessening the chances and efforts for the NC in pursuit of coaching for his alma mater. I can bet on it that, if after all these questions, he outwardly states that he is staying put (and I would believe his word:yelwink2: ), the chances of the Tigers going the whole way would be very much enhanced because of the emotional boost from their coach (imagine the players seeing their coach giving up the chance of coaching for his alma mater for this team!).:thumb:
Nick did not have to answer the question. He could have said "no comment" until the cows come home. I think it is apparent to Nick and everybody else that his lie came back to haunt him and his perceived dishonesty will dog him for many years. He simply can't be taken at his word and this will hurt him some day.
Serious question cause I'm missing something- how is Miles saying he wasn't going to coach at LSU different from Saban saying he wasn't going to coach at Bama?
About the same thing Fran said at Bama. He wasn't leaving OSU. The only difference in the two situations was the media exposure. There was a thread here about it a few weeks ago...but, it was deleted/closed...can't remember which.
Hell, I'm not sure, exactly. I only recently found out that he'd said anything like that. Okie posted in this thread about some of the circumstances but I don't know if that's from remembering, reading, or what.
I agree that Nick lied and said more than he needed to. However, he was goaded by the media to say a lot of what he did. He started with "no comment" but that wasn't good enough when the AMAB nation kept talking about him. No one believed him, so he tried the "I like it here" line. Lebatard wasn't going to let him get away with "no comment". Now, a lot of that was generated by Jimmy Sexton making it clear to well connected Bama folks that Nick was still interested. Every game the Dolphins played in Dec was looked at through the lens of whether he was staying. But had AMAB hired Rodriguez, there's a good chance he would have stayed in Miami for one more year, and he had to keep a good face on the situation. I just don't think the media, especially Lebatard, should get a pass when they constantly harassed him. OBTW, if Carr resigns, nothing Miles says will stop the rumors he is leaving until Michigan hires a HC, with Scott Rabalais in the role of Dan Lebatard. GEAUX TIGERS (GO TO HELL, OLE MISS)
Ya know, I can't help but agree, I think most would, but policing this would be a challenge for the FBI. Wait, I guess that's not a good example.....
Summarizing the consensus then... it seems most here would like this settled quickly. If Miles is to leave, we simply can't wait around enduring the affair. As I have stated on another thread, IMO, this scenario will prove to be a circus with most everyone (LSU, UM, and Miles) losing the longer it plays out. Without the glare of a BCS title on the line, we have been there, done that, and learned our lessons. This, however, appears to be a rather unique situation in college football, and could get interesting. Just ashame someone has to *uck around with our season.
