FYI, Leon will be 20 years old his junior year so the rule will not apply to him. He can enter the draft his junior year but not anytime before then.

On Chad Jones: He dropped a class at the end of the last semester and has to make up the credit with an extra class this summer to become eligible for football next season. The grade issue came after the decision by Jones and the coaches to focus on football.

Chad had a late start with football season and the Spring game and had a steep hill to climb to move up the depth chart. Leon and Mitchell are at the 2 positions he was battling for. Left field could be an option as well. If he was not going to play PM and Miles thought it was in his best interest to focus on the sport he was on scolarship for. Even though baseball is his 1st love, I think he understands he needs to think about his future and do whatever he can in football to financially secure his future.

I expect him to compete for a spot on the baseball team as well next year but could be another uphill climb with the outfield staying for next season. When Mitchell graduates that could be his year as a full-time starter unless he switches positions temporaily.

Yeah, that's about how I saw it regarding Chad Jones.

I wasn't referring to Leon specifically, Just throwing it in with the rest of the rules of when a player can leave and go pro

I know that is why I gave an FYI for the thread instead of quoting your post.:thumb:

Clark liked the San Diego pick, but he also does not like that their park is a place where hitters go to die.

I think being that he wasn't 1st or 2nd team SEC and is making waves in the NCAAs that his chances to be a 1st or 2nd round pick next year will keep him here. Big fella is a slugger, but he also plays a good first base.

The only player LSU will lose, I think is Verdugo.

Me too, Casey. I was thinking that Verdugo was a definite goner, and Clark mayyyybbbbeeee would be gone, but I think he can do MUCH better if comes back. Of course, who knows? Right? Right? *hint* *hint* :hihi:

Clark made a comment about him being drafted a few days ago. Wish I could find it but he did not sound like it was a definite at all. He said something about how he thought he would go higher and the $$$ he is offered would be the main factor.

What kind of $$$$ is he looking at based on where he was drafted???

    we can only hope. :)

one more year of him and Dean in the middle of the lineup would be nice.

I really have no idea, but being in the double-digit rounds, I wouldn't think anything big-time, but hell, even if it is just 2-3 million, that's more than enough for most.

what helps LSU a lot is his dad was a major leaguer, so Clark can be patient in that he doesn't have to strike it rich this instant, because he doesn't come from poor beginnings.

One important thing to remember is that he was drafted after the 10th round. In the first 10 round the contracts are subject to slotting. After the 10th, the player can be paid whatever the team wants to pay him. Thus, it's possible that Clark can make more money by being taken in the 12th round than he would have gotten if he were drafted in say the 8th round. It all depends on what the Padres offer. If they feel that he's a special player and that he might be a 1st round talent next year, then they just might pay him enough.
