Here's a list of the players who were drafted:

    Code:
    Player Round Team Pos. Class
    ------------------------------------------------------
    Ryan Verdugo 9 (267) Giants P Jr.
    Matt Clark 12 (375) Padres 1B Jr.
    Louis Coleman 14 (421) Nationals P Jr.
    Blake Martin 17 (516) Twins P Jr.
    Jared Bradford 18 (545) Cardinals P Sr.
Michael Hollander 20 (603) Rangers INF Sr.
    Jordan Brown 39 (1181) Cubs P Jr.
    Seniors were:
    Jared Bradford P
    Kyle Beerbohm P
    Jason Lewis C
    Michael Hollander INF/P

How many underclassman do you think will sign pro contracts? None were taken on the first day, though Verdugo might go. I've got to believe that Matt Clark would go MUCH higher next year if he comes back. Thoughts?

I wouldn't be surprised if Coleman comes back. the Nationals drafted 7 pitchers before him and have a low payroll and a pretty weak fan base.

i would think verdugo is gone. if clark was drafted by a team outside of cali i'd say maybe he'd come back but i think he's gone too.

coleman will have a decision to make. i think the other jr's come back. it'll probably depend on $ offered.

Don't forget that Leon Landry was drafted outta high school and could bolt any minute (I don't think he will, but it remains a possibility)

And since Jared Mitchell will be having a more active role in football this year he might not be as big a player with the team next year, might even be gone to the nfl draft if he has a good enough season.

Leon cannot bolt. Once the player enrolls in school, the team no longer has the rights to negotiate with the player. The player must wait for one of the following to happen before he can be drafted again.

Spend 3 years at a major school.
Spend 2 years at a junior college.
Spend 1 year at both and then he can be drafted.

Good point, hadn't considered that. Though I think it's highly unlikely he explodes enough to go early to the NFL, it would only mean good things for football next year if he did. He also missed a lot of time this year, so we'd have to see.

On a related note, I didn't realize Chad Jones was on the team. Is his activity in football why we didn't see him play, or was he just not good enough to get playing time?

So if I understand that right, it would mean Leon would be here until he was a Junior at least?

Chad Jones wasn't good enough to beat the others out, he was dealing with football and baseball just like Jared Mitchell but some other stuff came up from what I heard. However, PM had many great things to say about him and that he just needed time to improve. The outfield next year could me J. Mitchell in left, Leon in Center, and Chad in Right, depending on how he develops as a baseball player from here on out. I don't know if he is on the post-season roster.

That is Correct. Leon is here for at least 2 more years

My understanding about Chad Jones is that he was ineligible for baseball this spring due to grades...

Or a player turns 21. He would be able to leave after his freshman year if he was 21.

We have a chance of not losing any of our Jr. to the draft. The hopes of being a first day draft next year. However, we did have a few recruits drafted earlier that will probally go.

No because he did play in some of the games. Because he really wasn't makeing in headway, cpm told him to just focus on football while football practice was going on and then come back to baseball. Never saw him play after that. I think the grades issue may have to do with something else...not sure.

I had heard about the 21 rule, but I wasn't sure about if it had been changed or anything and it is such a rare occurance. But you are right, if they are 21 by the draft, it doesn't matter how many years they have been in school.
