You forgot Marcus Spears to Dallas in 2005 in the first round (20 something was the pick)

Not sure when or if Jarvis Green was drafted, and Marquise Hill was drafted in 04 I believe, not sure.

No, I only listed the DTs that were drafted, not the DEs. When the thread got merged, the mod changed what I wrote from DT to DL.

Here are the LSU DEs that have been drafted since 2000:

    2008 -- none
    2007 -- Seventh Round (213 Overall) -- Chase Pittman
    2006 -- Fifth Round (197 overall) -- Melvin Oliver
    2005 -- First Round (20 overall) -- Marcus Spears
    2004 -- Second Round (63 overall) -- Marquise Hill
    2003 -- none
    2002 -- Fourth Round (126 overall) -- Jarvis Green
    2001 -- none
    2000 -- none

If you include both DEs and DTs, and make a list of every LSU defensive lineman drafted since 2000, the list would look like this:

    2008
-- First Round (5 overall) -- Glenn Dorsey (DT)

    2007
-- Seventh Round (213 Overall) -- Chase Pittman (DE)

    2006
-- Third Round (68 overall) -- Claude Wroten (DT)
-- Fifth Round (134 overall) -- Kyle Williams (DT)
-- Fifth Round (197 overall) -- Melvin Oliver (DE)

    2005
-- First Round (20 overall) -- Marcus Spears (DE)

    2004
-- Second Round (63 overall) -- Marquise Hill (DE)
-- Fifth Round (142 overall) -- Chad Lavalais (DT)

    2003
    -- none

    2002
-- Fourth Round (126 overall) -- Jarvis Green (DE)
-- Sixth Round (190 overall) -- Howard Green (DT)

    2001
    -- none

    2000
    -- none

One interesting, and somewhat surprising thing, to me, is this:

Look at how well LSU players have done in the draft on the DL and the secondary since 2000.

On the DL, we've had a First-Round DT, a First-Round DE, and a Second-Round DE. Five DTs have been drafted since 2000 and five DEs have been drafted since 2000.

In the secondary, we've had a First-Round safety, a Second Round safety, and a Second-Round CB. Four safeties have been drafted since 2000 and three CBs have been drafted since 2000.

Yet, then look at LB. Since the 1989 NFL Draft, the only LSU linebacker taken in the draft has been Bradie James, who was taken in the 4th Round (103 overall) of the 2003 Draft.

Why are we so weak at LB compared to DL and the secondary?

LSU isn't weak at LB just because we haven't been an NFL LB factory. LSU defenses have been very consistent for awhile - you don't do that without a strong LB corps.

LSU simply is not the LB factory that Penn State and Ohio State and, to some extent, USC is. Rather, LSU attracts DL studs and trains 'em up.

WRs also. And DBs. And RBs, to some extent.

There are 119 teams in Div 1A. How many LBs were taken in this year's draft? 34. From 31 teams (Ohio State, USC and Purdue had two each).

Both Highsmith and Sanders made teams as free agents.
