There will be two guys getting alot of playing time this year that didn't last year. Alfred McCollough and Josh Chapman. Both are over 300 lbs and have benefited greatly from two seasons in Saban's S&C program. We've got another JUCO transfer coming in to play DT that is over 350 lbs. Luther Davis has looked good as well. At least when I was at the A-Day game he did. The guys that actually played last year all have noticeably bulked up and have also started to have the effects of Saban's S&C program begin to show. Now, I'm not saying we're going to dominate anybody's OL or we're going to lead the SEC in sacks but we've added some major size and strength to the DL compared to last year. We got pushed around last season due to this lack of size and had to use a lot of safety and corner blitzes that burnt us at times. We're slowly building the foundation of our defense where it needs to be but ain't nobody clearing off another spot in the trophy case just yet.
Re: How many loses next year for ND and Bama? How did your offense look this spring? Is it any different than last years? that will probably make a huge difference up the middle in a 3-4. i saw alfred and chapman in high school and they are enormous, and i think most will tell you chapman was better than murphy coming out of hs. i guess their development will determine where murphy will play?
Re: How many loses next year for ND and Bama? The thing that stood out to me at A-Day with regards to these two is their quickness off the ball AND being that big. McCullough was just cat quick and Chapman was all over the place as well. When guys that size can also have some athleticism about them you can't help but get excited. And yes they are both big dudes. Rumor has it that the staff is quite pleased with the DL and possibly may move Murphy to the OL. That is where he played while at Hargrave Academy. But the DL *SHOULD* be much much better this year which should make the rest of our defense better. Now if we could just do something about the offense.
Interesting NY Times article today on future scheduling for ND. Glad to see Rutgers put foot down. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/29/s....html?_r=2&ref=sports&oref=slogin&oref=slogin
