My daughter doesn't wish to create paintings for a living. She wants to design sets and costumes. If that's her dream, it's a cool one, and I want her to go for it.
I don't see the problem with this. We have no idea how much she and her husband have saved for retirement, but that, as well as the SSI (which they paid into) is what every retired couple does. Selling a painting here and there just supplements their income.
That's cool. When you said she wanted to major in art I get a picture of a starving artist. There are probably degree programs that teach just what she is looking for. UCLA is supposed to have the best film school. They probably also teach set and costume design as well as all kinds of media arts. Absolutely nothing. Zilch! They both still owe me money from 20 years ago. The hubby has rich parents but they have cut him off. He is probably out of their will too. Whenever she sells a painting it just postpones another crisis on the serial crises that are the days of their lives.
