Because you have rational, reasonable expectations, and are probably older than 25, thus you have relativity.
What is so hard about expecting perfection. No shit we wont ever see it, but dont sit there and act like Les Miles or ANY COACH tells his team, "Guys we are going to lose 2-3 games this year just FYI. I don't want yall getting your hopes up!". Seriously?
When you consistently fall in line behind a western division mate you were once on top of, gotta believe we can do better. Being #2 and underperforming on the dance floor against inferior talent also tells recruits sumfin. Hope we can come out on top of a relatively high profile bowl and earn 10 wins and a top 10 finish (quite an accomplishment with our struggles this year), and improve on that next year.
Believe me, I have been through more than you could ever realize and you don't need you to explain lofty goals to me. I set goals very high, but appreciate and enjoy the ride, too. Sometimes I overachieve my goals, sometimes I don't quite get there. If I don't achieve exactly what I set out for, I guess it depends on what it means to me, but I usually don't whine and cry. I simply move on and strive for better. For example, I was told over and over I did not have the grades or scores to get to med school. I heeded the warnings, but didn't listen to the negativity, and kept trudging on. I got there. It didn't happen as quickly as I hoped. It took some perseverance and persistence, and you know what, I appreciated it more, and I think I am more in touch w/my patients b/c of my personal experiences. Marrying my wife was also overachieving for me. There are other areas where I have not reached my goals, but I usually don't look at it as failing. Specifically to LSU, I absolutely expect them to win every game, and am disappointed when/if they don't. I was pissed for a while about the Ole Miss game. But, I am also realistic overall, can factor in other variables like attrition, and appreciate what we are doing overall. Once again, I am not blankedly a Miles "sunshine pumper". He's not perfect, and I mentioned his faults that we all know about. But, we are a top tier team most years. We will likely end the year in the top 10 again, after all is said and done, and after losing the level of NFL talent that we lost this past year. That's impressive, depending on your slant/perspective/expectation.
Along w/everyone else in college football. We are one of the few teams that can hang, and actually beat them. Saban walked into a stacked team talent wise when he went to Bama. He's just kept it rollin'. Kudos to him. We have more ups and downs than Bama. That's the way it is. We'll be back in the championship hunt. Just have some patience and faith.
That's not what I am saying and you know it. Perfection is real hard, close to impossible, expecting it is easy. I expect LSU to be undefeated and win the NC every year. I am also realistic, enjoy the ride, and don't bitch and whine b/c they did not achieve my expectation.
What I have learned is that I get labeled as "not enjoying it" or a "negatiger" because I talk about our imperfections....
No, I have similar expectations but temper them w/reality. Your expectations are not tempered, period. They are unrealistic. If your expectations are not achieved, and you stated you expect perfection, then you will not be satisfied. That is not realistic and is not a satisfying way to live in my opinion.
