he wont last long. sec Ds are going to go after him hard. he wont last through the auburn game if nothing changes.
I think JJ is the exact same as Jacori Harris. The difference is the mindsets handling the two players. Miami trusts Harris and lets him play. He can get on a role and use his abilities to help his team. Because of this he will and has progressed on a different level. LSU slows everything down. JJ is forced to get to the line, and then look to the sidelines for the call. It slows the entore game down. It shows a lack of trust, and eliminates the rhythm. They were very similarly ranked, and have the same number of starts. That said, I think JJ had his worst game last night decision wise. Usually he has kept the ball away from defenders, but very easily could have had 3 picks last night. Also, I would trade our line for miamis even if I only got 4 players for 5.
My concern is will Jordan Jefferson be able to lead this offense when trailing late in the game, or in the 2 minute drill. He has been good protecting a lead by not making too many mistakes, but what is going to happen when a good team has us on the ropes late in the game? I have been a big critic of Jarrett Lee also, but if we are ahead on the scoreboard in the 2nd half, JJ is good with me, if we are down on the scoreboard late in the game, i think at this point i would rather have Lee in the game, he has a quicker throwing motion, and is more accurate downfield.
And Lee did something no LSU QB has ever done in a long while... beat Auburn at home. Which is why last season, while everyone was booing and throwing him under the bus, I said do not give up on Lee... he'll be a better QB for his play last season. I think if/when we see Lee come in, he'll be a totally different QB. JJ is good, he's just young and needs time to progress. He threw the deep ball all night against Ga Tech in our bowl game and we were criticized nationally for it. Now all of a sudden JJ can't do it? Imo, that has more to do with the Oline and our backs not blocking then JJ himself. Last season Lee ripped apart defenses with his passing game, and did fairly well with a few exceptions. LOL!!! Maybe we see a new LSU starting satuday.
No, Jefferson is improving, but there is already a pattern. Every time Shepard has come in, it has been a run. Every time Lee comes in, it has been a pass. It ain't hard to figure out who the coaches think their arm is. If LSU is down by 2 scores in the second half and in an obvious passing situation, I don't think the coaches will hesitate to put Lee in to throw the ball downfield.
If this happens, it will pretty much sum up how I feel about this coaching staff so far this season. If they feel Lee is the best guy to move the ball down the field, fine by me, but they should be playing him all the time. We should Always have the BEST players on the field. I don't care who it is.
Very well could be... I would have liked to see Lee get some more snaps then he has this first 3 games. It's going to be very important to get him in rythem if they do plan on getting him some playing time. Imo, our success in the passing game is going to rest on the arm of Lee at some point... unless of course, we've been playing down to other teams playing level, and JJ is just messing around. But I doubt that's the case atleast to some degree.
:thumb: Me too; both QB's need to grow, esp JJ at this stage. I suspect last year's lessons would have sunk in with Lee this year; I expect, and is hopeful that he is better. You bet; who said Crowton was being vanilla. It made perfect sense, since teams would think LSU would be gun shy about letting Lee do many passes after what happened last year; and that the team was in the range to try to power the ball thru the goal line.:thumb: cleverly crafted point! JJ is soaking in valuable experience; wasn't he also staring down his receivers, like Lee was last year, being a relatively green QB? It was good sign to see JJ come right back after his interception, and zipped some sharp bullet passes to Tolliver for a series of completions.
just a hunch right now, but i'm thinking that is nothing more than a set-up for Florida don't be shocked to see him take a direct snap, take 2-3 steps, then hit a guy downfield for a big play (like he who shall not be mentioned did against Va TEch in '07)
jj is actually doing a decent job of not staring down receivers. although its a little hard to tell since 90% of his passes are quick passes in the flats.
