I'm not going to bash JJ simply because I think he is a superstar in the rough, and he's played imo, pretty damn well for only having 2 starts going into this year... but he has got to learn to get down. How many more hits can he take like he's taken the so far this season. We got lucky, but if he takes those types of hits from real SEC defenses... we could be in another position like last year. I think our total success this seaon rides on him.
For the few plays where Lee has come in, he has done very well. I was real happy last night when he threw the touchdown pass. It was on the money. He led the receiver just right. I think his teammates were just as pleased for him as anyone. I'll admit I was one of the naysayers after his performance last season, but I have to admire his sticking around, not feeling sorry for himself, and buckling down, trying to improve his game and show that despite the grief he received, he was meant to be a Tiger. :geaux:
Would love to see some platooning between him and Lee. JJ is great in the option, but at this point in his career he trusts his athletic ability more than the playbook and its killing the offense. Last night looked like an organized scrimmage as the coaches gave him every opportunity to make downfield throws. However, as everyone saw most passes were late, behind the receiver/running back or underthrown. Also, his mechanics at this point are inefficient and he stares down receivers. We're going to have to install very conservative game plans moving forward so we have chances to steal games with our defense, while utilizing his option ability to move the chains. It's not going to be pretty and it probably means at least 3 losses this year, but at least our defense and special teams have played well lately. This could help tip the scales in our favor down the road.
I feel pretty confident in saying that Jarrett Lee will never throw seven interceptions for touchdowns in a season, ever again...
and? in all 3 games this year, he has gotten dinged and had to come out for at least 1 play. he needs to either learn how to not get nailed/bent in half, or Crowton needs to quit calling plays designed for him to run over a linebacker. watch when Tebow runs. if he's every hit square, it's because he's delivering the hit. then watch JJ. rarely on those shots is he the guy bringing the hit. he just gets lit by a guy that has all the momentum. usually the guy bringing the hit wins.
I hate to admit it after I bashed him last year, but at this point, I'd like him to get in a few more plays to see what he can do. I believe JJ is a little gun shy at times because he doesn't want the same thing that happened to Lee happen to him.
