WTF... hell yes it is the violation of the equal protection law. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHbdc8Q_3Ek http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ist25T_Opqo&feature=related Cumulative voting…we are not a f*cking corporation!
FOX is being misleading , as usual. They are giving EVERY voter 6 votes, NOT just Latinos. This position for election was for a 6 member board county board of trustees and not a single member, thus the 6 votes. Currently more than fifty communities in the United States use cumulative voting. Anybody, not just latinos, can either vote for multiple candidates or vote multiple time for one candidate, whatever works best for them. There is no violation of equal protection since everybody has the same voting right. It allows a minority to get enough votes to get a minority trustee elected, but it costs them the ability to elect a representative number of trustees. Latino's are 46% of the population in this city. They'll end up with 16% of the votes.
I agree, after watching more videos they are being misleading. However, I still don’t like it. And if the state’s intent is to stack the deck for a better chance to get a Latino elected, how is the law not on its face discriminating against the non-Latino trustees. What the hell is a trustee anyway…I don’t feel like googling it.
Red wasn't listening - as usual. Fox never said only Latinos got 6 votes. It was made clear that all voters got 6 votes. Regardless, the constitutionality of this should be challenged. I am amazed someone has not done so.
The fact that they are giving 1 person 6 votes tells you that there is an agenda behind it. No further analysis necessary.
The title of the video linked by the OP-- "Port Chester NY gives Latinos 6 votes per person!" Which article of the constitution does it violate?
Ummmm, doesn't the user that uploaded the video create that title? Doesn't look like FOX uploaded the video so the title is irrelevant.
why does it matter how many votes people have it they all have the same amount? they could give everyone 10 billion votes if they wanted, whats the difference?
