They are picked third in their Conference this coming year. But if you go to their Official web sit you will see they think they have a pretty good baseball team. Seeing our 4 starting Pitchers and how we play in the Outfield I think we can go up against anybody in College Baseball. I just don't want us to have a bad game, and lose to a team that we should beat like a drum. The SEC will be tough enough. We want to get as many wins as we can so we can Host a Regional and a Super Regional. Holy Cross Athletics: Crusaders Set To Open 2011 Season At LSU :geaux:
Manieri is still holding "tryouts" for his weekend rotation. A loss here sucks but tells CPM what he needs to know for the long haul. Anybody can beat anybody in baseball.
Oh, I know Coach Maninieri, has to see what kind of a team he really has and has to play a lot of players at the begainning of the season. Coach Maninieri is just coaching just like Coach Bertman. Coach Bertman use to play a lot of under classmen as well. I just don't want to lose to a lesser team, because when we get into the meat of the SEC we will lose some ball games. Florida and Arkansas are two very good baseball teams this year. As a whole the SEC and the ACC could be the two best Conference in college baseball.
Holy Cross actually has a rich NCAA tournament history with 2 final 4's and a national title. I did a wiki search and they were offered a spot in the Big East. They have tournament appearances in every decade except the 60's and 12 overall, which is pretty good for any tiny Catholic colleges in the NE. Wiki also shows that they had a lead at halftime as a #16 seed in 2001, so that was pretty significant. Bob Cousy is their best player ever, and he was pretty damn good. No idea if this translates over to baseball, but they must have a pretty dedicated athletic department in order to sustain success over that long of a period.
For those that are hungry for us to go up in the rankings, they aren't good enough to assist us much. Good news is there are a couple of teams ranked ahead of us going head to head in weekend series this week.
I understand where you're coming from, and don't necessarily disagree. The issue with baseball rankings is it is a very much what have you done lately. What we have done lately, given much of the 2009 Championship team is gone, and last yr we were just a solid top 25, that is where they put us this season. Respect is why we are top 15-20. Given we have a lot of ???? at this point. Mainly a core group of unproven pitchers, and some key positon players that, although highly touted, are still unproven. It will all take care of itself as we keep winning.
My friend played football there. I don't have anything else to add to the discussion other than that they play in the Patriot League, which like the Ivy, doesn't offer athletic scholarships.
