So far the debate about the game has largely centered around the prowess of our Defense and Bama's. But something I haven't seen a whole lot of speculation on is our offensive line, and Bama's as well. This seems incongruent to me, since after all it's the OL that has to face the withering defenses. On the other hand, maybe I'm just not looking hard enough for this analysis. I'd like to know how people think their OL matches to our defense, and vice versa.
Before the season Bama fans were worried about their OL. Now they think they have the best O-line in the SEC. Success breeds confidence, I suppose. If they are better than LSU's offensive line, we may have a problem . . . but I don't think that they are. Good but not great and quite possibly, not as deep as LSU.
Just look at it this way. LSU hung 237 yards rushing against TN. Rushing is without doubt a function of your offensive line. Bama hung 143 yards rushing against TN. I think our O-Line is just fine.
Our D line is better, their linebackers are better, our secondary is way better. As far as the offensive line, they haven't played a decent defense yet so who knows. Then again, neither have we really. I think the O Line at this point would have to go to LSU just because of the depth and experience.
Tough call. They're a good line blowing up big holes for Richardson, but they haven't faced a defensive line like ours. I'd say the same is true for our offensive line. Let's hope everyone is healthy and brings their A game. My question is does Chief put 5 on the line against Bama and make them throw? Lining up the freak in a nose tackle position could be an interesting scheme.
I have been wondering the same exact thing. If we put him in at nose tackle it is going to be incredibly difficult for Bama to run on us. I like that scheme better than a 4-3. Clog the middle, and guess what.......Richardson is NOT going to outrun our ends on the edges.
In that respect .... you have to remember .. .they just have to be good enough .. they don't have to be better than all others. If they keep the defenders off the QB long enough for the play to develop and be executed, .. they have done their job as good as it can be done.
Amen. You've asked the pertinent question(s) for this particular game. 1. LSU's OL is underrated by most writers/analysts primarily because we don't have headline rushing/receiving numbers. That's fine with me. When you have great depth at RB, and numerous receivers catching and scoring touchdowns, then you only have to look at the scoreboard to check the quality of the offense. 2. Our DL is constantly being replaced with refreshened players. We don't have a Glenn Dorsey this year but most have equal or better quickness than Kyle Williams or Chad Lavalais of the 2003 :champs:. It's the 'stick' in our tackling (ala Craig Steltz of 2007 :champs that will determine our defensive line's success. Tigers Win !!! Tigers Win !!! :tigerhead :geauxtige
