This exact thought ran through my head watching those SEC commercials touting all of the league's accomplishments, but can't seem to make any significant progress with officiating quality. Then again, the fact that an SEC crew actually manged to not completely screw up LSU/Auburn is a miracle in itself.
I don't understand why they didn't have a view from the high camera in the endzone (the one they use for FGs and PATs). I was expecting to see that view and that it would be definitive. But it wasn't shown and never mentioned.
I guess the picks they were using to get there TE open were ok by them. Their are some that are bad calls. Their are some that are missed. Their are some that get overlooked. And then there are some that are intentionally missed or overlooked. sometimes it is just being human. sometimes it is crooked refs sometimes they are just missed. Depends on the crew and the game they are calling. If you are playing Bama or Auburn in the State of Alabama you should expect to get screwed and know you will have to overcome it.
I seem to remember a game against Auburn a few years back where a big call did blow the game for us, and it was reviewed and they still got the call wrong. Same thing happened to Ole Miss vs. Bama last year. I know you have to make a choice, between too many replays (some) or too few (none)....and I'll take the latter, given my druthers. Of course, it isn't my choice, and I will still watch CFB religiously....I just disagree with Blackledge that the College replay system is perfect. I actually prefer NFL's. College one makes no sense, every call is reviewed, but coaches can still initiate a challenge? No need for giving the coaches challenge flags if they automatically review each one right?
I thought the replay from above showed his helmet as the only thing crossing the goal before he was down. Once he rolled over the ball crossed the goal. The Tebow TD two years ago on fourth down was also close. We also had two TDs (same drive) called back (phantom holding) or down (elbow) on the same drive. Then we fumbled at the one yard line. Hopefully we'll play well enough so the game can't be determined by a close call. I think it's a tough job to officiate and I realize that can't be expected to get all the calls correct but the SEC does have several weak teams of officials that need to get better or be replaced.
this is true....but in the case of whether or not the ball is tipped, that is reviewable. At least in the NFL it is......but either way the officials in that one should've been able to call PI on the strength of the video showing the ball was not tipped before the contact was made. If that's not part of the rules it should be.
