How do schools decide who to offer schollies to? I ask because I see that PJ Smith is being offered by Nebraska. Is it a case of LSU having better options at the DB position?

Pelini said that he wouldn't recruit any prospects that LSU was after. Clearly, LSU isn't after PJ. Now, the question may be why does Pelini think PJ is good enough for Nebraska but he isn't good enough for LSU. Two possibilities. One is that Pelini does want him at LSU, but Miles disagrees, OR Pelini is just trying to get some talent at Nebraska & relying on some relationships he already has even though he may be settling for what he views as not necessarily top talent.

LSU has a very long & in-depth process for offering prospects. They track athletes all the way through high school to see their progress, but the main thing s the camps we hold (LaRon Byrd would probably be in this class if he had attended an LSU camp). Camps allow us to have accurate measurements for height, weight, speed, etc. We can try them out in many different positions, make them do a lot of stuff their high school teams may not ask them to do, teach them technique & see how well they pick it up...

Then each coach sort of petitions to get the prospects he wants offered. Miles has the final say on which prospects get official offers.
