Being that there's a championship in the SEC, I would say that its possible that there could be more like 10 teams in contention. Since the five indicates only winners and not also losers  .

I know I bang this drum alot but I can find no better summation:

My point exactly. 8 teams have "won" the Big 10 in the past 8 years, including UM X's 3 and tOSU X's 3? You would think this argument would be over after the thrashing UF gave tOSU last year...but NEAUX!:rolleye33:

The reason the Big 10 beats the SEC in bowl games is because stronger Big 10 teams play weaker SEC teams.

If we go down the line and play 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, all the way to 10 vs 10 the SEC will win running away. When our 7 plays there 3 the story may be a little different.

The argument about the number of champions is a farce. How many times have the SEC East and West champions had identical conference records and had to settle it on the field. Or for that matter how many times have there been divisional ties. In the Big 10 the tie breaker decides who goes to the Rose Bowl, but all teams get a share of the championship. In the SEC we have 1 clear, and undisputed champion.

That actually makes you in agreement with what I said as I pointed that out too. :thumb:

Talk about a canned response, go back and read- "They" said that was one SEC fans throw out. What about the BCS bids and Bowl records?

Don't tell me the BCS is screwy cause in '03 (And ever since) we've argued IT was the only one that counted.

Notice I'm using Big10 info here since when I use PAC10 facts, it's viewed as a "Bias". lol. I won't even start the "If Tennessee wins the SEC and Cal, the 5th team from the PAC beat them......."

More BCS appearances for the Big 10 says just the opposite though I didn't look at specifics and what you're saying is very often spot on. The bowl pairings are sometimes a joke because of it, imo.

I fully admitted it was a canned response. Canned or not, it's a valid response. How can you have 8 teams represent as champion in 8 years, yet 6 of those years are represented by two teams? It's a joke.

You could say that not having a true conference championship allows more Big10 teams the opportunity to go to BCS games.

Like last years OSU/Michigan and UF/LSU... but at the same time Wisconsin didn't play either and also was deserving of a BCS bowl bid. Now you factor in a Conference Championship and you still have the same result last season, but that will not always be the case.

I just think its easier to get two big10 teams into BCS bowls, then it is for the SEC. Where we have to have two teams from the same division with 1 or 2 losses. They only have to have 2 teams from the entire conference with similar records (no more then 2 losses).

No problem, I'm not necessarily "Pro" this/that when I post- just trying to stimulate some discussion. See how fair I was?

And they would say that HAVING a conference championship also gained LSU in '03 and Florida '06 an NC birth, clearing the way for another SEC team to be picked. (And I'm saying that without recollection of the records of other teams right off).
