This is the BCS poll, the "One that counts", remember? We never talk about the Big 12 but they're neck and neck with us as far as top ten teams-arguably, ahead of us. Taking in the top twenty-five, the Big 12 & Big 10 look just as "Deep" as the SEC. .1/ Missourri.....................Big 12 .2/ West Virginia...............Big East .3/ Ohio State..................Big 10 .4/ Georgia......................SEC .5/ Kansas.......................Big 12 .6/ Virginia Tech...............ACC .7/ LSU...........................SEC .8/ USC...........................PAC 10 .9/ Oklahoma....................Big 12 10/ Florida........................SEC 11/ Boston College.............ACC 12/ Hawaii........................WAC 13/ Arizona St...................PAC 10 14/ Tennessee..................SEC 15/ Illinois........................Big 10 16/ Clemson.....................ACC 17/ Oregon......................PAC 10 18/ Wisconsin..................Big 10 19/ Brigham Young...........MW 20/ Texas.......................Big 12 21/ South Florida.............Big East 22/ Virginia.....................ACC 23/ Cincinnai...................Big East 24/ Auburn.....................SEC 25/ Boise State...............WAC Top Twenty-five: SEC................5 teams Big12..............4 Big 10.............3 PAC 10...........3 WAC..............2 Big East..........3 Top Ten SEC................3 Big12..............3 Big 10.............1 PAC 10...........1 WAC..............0 Big East..........1 ACC...............1
All thats true, but you have to consider the quality of "all" teams in each conference. I'd have to give the SEC the nod on that one. :tigereye::tigereye::tigereye::tigereye::tigereye:
Check strength of schedule - five of the top 10 this year are SEC teams. Other conferences aren't as deep because they only have 2 - 3 tough conference foes. Pretty clear cut if you ask me.
The difference between the SEC and the other conferences: Just about every team can beat you. Our 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th placed teams are better, IN FOOTBALL, than the Big 12's, Big 10's and the Pac 10's. Watch the bowl games- it usually tells the story. Also, the pollsters usually rank teams based on wins and losses. Since the SEC has more good teams, the chances of losing is higher, and as a result, we only have 2 teams w/ 10 wins or more at the end of the regular season.
Not picking on you cause you're response is the norm. I bought into that too and I still think the SEC is an overall stronger and deeper conference but the more I read, the harder it is for me to say that. Now, I don't want to spin this cause the thread was in reference to this year but I think this will surprise many, if they are honest. http://community.foxsports.com/blogs/RossDillon/2007/11/03/Big_10_vs_SEC_Revisited There are so many SOS polls and I don't know if I'm not becoming inclined to believe that indicators are manipulated to suit whatever the desired result is. In other words, people who derive such information begin knowing the outcome they want to see and crunch facts/stats/figures until they get it. We talk about injuries taking a toll in the SEC, for example. Do people really believe we hit differently in the SEC. If they do, they need only watch the two youtubes below. CFB athletes today are incredibly talented, strong and speedy. What's so funny is that each conference feels the same about theirs as we do ours- I'm just trying to show where others have reason to think that too so we don't naively automatically dismiss them in discussions. The same canned responses have become so predictable, perhaps some specifics to accompany them would make a much stronger argument. I see some things our fans post on other forums that are downright embarrassing. .
The problem with the Big 10 vs SEC argument above is this... "Big Ten has 8 teams with at least a SHARE of the conference title...blah blah blah." GET A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then come talk to me.:thumb: (How's that for a canned response)
How these SoS figures are calculated is my biggest point of contention with your argument. I do think the SEC is strong, but I don't think our bowl record and OOC record against BCS conferences has been that phenomenal lately. Really, there will never be a way to definitively say this conference is better than that conference. I believe the SEC might have the strongest fanbases across the board, but I don't have numbers to back it up.
