Lost in the QB shuffle was the really fine performance of our kicking teams. Punting looked great! First kickoff was five yards deep in the end zone! Onside kick done better than I've ever seen - and I've seen a LOT of football. Let's hope we've turned the corner on the kicking problems. Congrats to the special teams!
Except for the 2 Holiday fumbles, this was the finest special teams play I have ever witnessed by LSU. MVP to the special teams, actually.
That's what happens when you have an actual special teams coach. And not just a linebackers coach aka a defensive guy coaching special teams.
So - any thoughts on what happened to Trindon tonight? Just a "bad hands day"? I was sure hoping he would be a big contributor tonight.
I was looking for TH to actually settle this one with his returns, but let's face it...he is new to returning punts really. As far as I remember, he didn't run at all out of the backfield tonight.
Are we gonna work out having two #30's punting the ball? The onside kick was picture perfect. Great call by :milesmic:
The reason he hasn't always been returning them is because he can't catch them. He won't be out there in a big spot again, I don't think. He just can't catch the ball in traffic. Think about the returns against N. Texas. They were all punts that overkicked coverage so he had tons of room to haul it in.
