I'm very excited about the hiring of Gregg Williams as DC for a couple of reasons:
    1) Puts me at ease about Sean Payton being one to "go down with a coach" the way Haslett did with Venturi.
    2) He clearly has a history of turning defenses around.

I'm not sure how much he can improve us in one offseason, especially one where we are strapped for cash, but I think there's already more talent on this team than most think. He runs a 4-3, so that will allow us to continue to use Vilma in the role he's most comfortable in. Because of this, I don't think it's going to take multiple years to get comfortable with a "change in philosophy". I look for him to bring our defense well into the top 20 next year, and probably in the lower part of the Top 15 defenses. I think that will be enough to get this team deep in the playoffs. What say you?

Agreed. I think hiring Gregg Williams was HUGE (alot bigger than most casual NFL fans realize). Like you said, he likes to run the 4-3 and put alot of pressure on the QB.

I read that Sean Payton sacrificed $250,000 of his own salary so that Benson could sign Williams. Payton isn't stupid. We have the offense. Now we need the defense to go along with it. He recognized that the D needs help. The Saints defense ranked 23rd in the NFL in yards allowed and tied for 26th in points allowed last season.

Add 3 wins to last season's team just by having Williams as the DC.

ill say 2 more wins and possibly 3 IF they get rid of the entire secondary.

and by secondary I mean both safeties. the josh bullocks/roman harper experiment should be officially over. if he keeps either one of these guys, I will be less optimistic because Im not sure anyone can help these 2.

i tried being patient but man, they are horrible.

A new secondary would be nice.

This draft and offseason is pretty big....this offense isn't going to be around forever.

just like he did in Jacksonville.

But in all seriousness, I think it adds a win or two ONLY if they make some personnel changes.

Jesus could coach the current defense and he'd still give up 16-19 a game.

    1. Resign Vilma
    2. Get a complimentary corner for McKenzie
    3. Get safeties who are NFL-caliber

Do 2 of those 3, you should see a lot better of a defense.

Tracy Porter looked REAL good before he got injured. I'd ventured to say I'm more comfortable with him starting than McKenzie at corner right now. McKenzie's age and injuries are going to be taking their toll, and I don't look for him to be a starting CB next year if we can find anyone serviceable over there. I'd love to see him move to FS....

Looks like Bloody Bullocks was the only problem back there. He single handedly brought Harper's play down.

Harper is playing really well this season.
