How big/little of a drop-off will LSU have in the secondary this season?

But that's not to say that he won't improve. He certainly has the athleticism. I just think he sometimes became too preoccupied with causing a turnover.

    This.

His aggressiveness made him vulnerable, at times.

Yet Bama burned him SO MUCH in the BSCCG, Bama waited until he 4th to score a TD and it wasn't even on TM7..

You people are selective no doubt.

I did watch the game and I saw a pathetic Offense go 3 and out the entire game while our D was left out to dry...

TM7 -- AS A TRUE DB, is top 3 in the SEC, pure and simple.. Numbers do not lie..

Patrick Peterson won the Bednarik the year before TM7 did

TM7 was the best defensive player in the country despite his struggles in man to man coverage, its similar to how Deion Sanders was a Hall of Famer despite his struggles in tackling

TM7's struggles in man to man coverage and Deion Sanders struggles in tackling are no secret, plenty of sportswriters and scouts have written about it regarding both of them, but those same sportswriters think they are both great players, because they are

finally, you are really confused regarding your stats. the only stats that mean anything regarding coverage skill is how many times your man was thrown at, and how many times your man caught it. if you throw at the #1 corner 4 times, and his man never catches it, and you throw at the #2 corner 7 times, and his man catches it 3 times, it doesn't mean that #2 corner was the better cover corner because he had 2 more pass break ups and 2 more tackles

TM7 had the second most pass breakups on the team. Mo C had 6 to TM7's 9, Simmon had 10.
    TM7 had 11 passes defended to Mo C's 12 ( yea the 1st rounder) ......

    Tackles for a loss 7.5

    Tackles 59

    Fumbles Forces 6 & 4 fumble returns.

    Almost forgot, hes a Sophomore!!!!

TM7 has as good cover skills as anyone. Watch most of the catches made on him Jan 9 were perfect passes placed where on;ly the receiver could catch. One or two were over his head and yes his hight is a liability. He is also a little slower than Mo and PP7 but not so much as to be a liability.
Frankly there has never been a player at LSU who has made as much impact ever. That includes Tommy Casanova, Jerry Stoval, Mike Anderson, George Bevan and I have seen all of them in over 50 years.

He's a playmaker, NOT a lockdown corner. Get that through your skulls. His size doesn't have shit to do with it. The dude is the most naturally gifted football player I've probably ever seen.

His strengths are his athleticism and his ballhawking ability, him seeming to always be in the right place at the right time, MAKING PLAYS, this is what he does best. Part of this is scheme. Chief letting him roam the field, often in nickel, dime, and blitz packages. This part of Mathieu's game is utilized very well. This is why he's an All-American, along with his special teams play.

The fact that he indeed had a lockdown corner opposite of him freed him up to make a lot of the plays he did, 2 YEARS IN A ROW. His freshman year, he had Peterson AND Claiborne on the field at the same time. I am very anxious to see how he does in the full time CB role. Exploitation of the man-to-man coverage deficiency will be studied and utilized by opponents. I truly hope that he exceeds everyone's expectations and blows the competition off the field.

Google all the stats you want, they are skewed, and you know it. If you don't realize it, then you're quite dense. o_O

Perhaps I've been a little harsh on my criticism of Mathieu, and yes, I know that Claiborne and Peterson have also been burned. Wooptey freakin doo. No player is perfect.

I simply point out an observation and people want to argue like it never happened.

The catches made on HB7 on 1/9 were catches that would've been made against PP7, MO, hell even Darelle Revis. Saying he got burned gives far too little credit to how precise McCarron was that night.

He got beat a couple of times against WVU, but shit. They threw the ball 65 times. Everyone had balls caught on them...and both he and MO showed why they were the two best in the country that night. He's going to get beat. What makes him great is that he stops way more plays than he gives up. He's gonna be just fine next season and in the league.
