I hate to be a Doom and Gloom type of guy. But how bad was the lost to Ole Miss hurt LSU recruiting? Before I post this thread I went to some other Boards and all it was about how bad LSU lost to Ole Miss and how it will hurt recruiting. I look at it this way, the recruits today are a lot smarter than they were 30 and 40 years ago. They know LSU is playing with young QBs and they will only get better. Heck Shepard is saying that he could start as a true Freshman. I don't think the rest of the recruits don't pay any mind if a team that is rebuilding like LSU is doing this year with their QBs. Does anybody else has any comments on this issue?
It probably doesnt hurt as much as you think, see Florida last year. Guys probably view it as an opportunity to compete for playing time at alot of positions.
One way it could have hurt is if LSU was battling it out with Ole Miss for a top recruit right now. Which we are not. But even then it is pretty rare that one game would change a recruits mind on where they would fit best in the long-run.
i think today's recruits look at it as an opportunity to come show their stuff and play early. did losing to ulm hurt bama? no, because their recruits probably thought they could come in a play right away. depending on the position, many youngsters may have opportunity.
This is why I love this Message Board nobody runs another Poster down. Everybody gives their own opinion and each and everyone are very good one.
That is a definite positive. IMO, the main negative is the lack of organization evident in a number of games this year. These kids are serious ballplayers and they can see the results of poor coaching and scheme-planning for themselves. Miles has to do some serious revamping with the coaching staff. Say what you will about Saban, he surrounds himself with top coordinators and position coaches.
Right. And this is why comparing ALA last year to LSU this year is not apples to apples. ALA had a new coaching regime with a history of winning take over a program with expected losses for 2007, and expected improvement in the future. LSU has been very successful the past 5 years with lots of conversation about the change in regime being blessed with a stacked deck. Now, with the season unfolding as it has, not just with 3 losses, but 3 games that were not close by the 4th quarters, and a near loss to a lower echelon team that took a historic comeback, those naysayers seem to be prophetic. I could see how a current recruit would be questioning our direction and sway them to a different program.
