Way to miss the point. Chip Kelly ran arguably the best ground attack of the past decade, and he telegraphed exactly where the ball was going on ~70-80% of the snaps. If the running back is lined up behind the QB, then the drawn up play on ~70-80% of snaps is as follows: 1. The RB will run between the opposite side's tackle and guard. 2. Your best d lineman on the backside of the play will be left unblocked. 3. If that lineman plays contain, then the QB will hand the ball off to the RB. 4. If that lineman tries to pursue the RB, then the QB will run towards the hole the lineman left. 5. If 3 is true and the linebackers overcommit, then the RB will cutback towards the backside of the play. Every defensive coordinator in the nation knew that this is how Oregon's offense was run, yet they still couldn't stop it. Why? Because the defense knowing what's going to happen is inconsequential. So long as the offense doesn't get beat in the trenches, the play's going to work anyway. This holds true for any properly drawn up play in a proper offensive system. I'm pretty sure Cam Cameron knows how to draw up a play and how to create a proper offensive system.
You are right I missed it. I don't get how what Oregon runs has anything to do with what LSU is doing. Were you suggesting that Cam should run that type of offense? If Oregon can do what they are doing, and Cam can draw up a play and create a proper offensive system, what is the problem at LSU?
In general? Execution. O-lineman hold onto their blocks for too long, Jennings doesn't always audible out of plays that are dead in the water, and sometimes you just flat out get beat. The Ole Miss game is an example of what the offense is supposed to look like when we don't have a good west coast QB.
Running in the trenches in the PAC 12 and the SEC are two different animals. John Curtis could probably run the ball successfully in the PAC 12
Wrong. There is a big difference in the zone read offense that Oregon runs and the power run offense that LSU uses. The zone read offense uses the defense's overcommittment to their advantage, the power offense does not. The play (and the ball) is designed to go go to a certain location. The RB is lined up behind the FB who is lined up behind the QB who is under center. On the snap the FB heads for the hole the play is designed for (usually) and the RB follows the FB. If the defense knows where the ball is coming as in Dellenger's example they rush to that location and stuff the ballcarrier, as in Dellenger's example. There are ways for the power offense to take advantage of the defense picking up tells though. One way is to give deceptive tells. In other words tell one thing and do something else. Another way is for the QB to call an audible if he sees the defensive guys showing they have picked up the play. I don't think the coaches let Jennings audible though. The zone read offense is designed to allow the QB (or the ball carrier) to adjust on the fly. .
I disagree with you, Reason : Watch bama when they run , we all know it is a run , and some of us even makes a bet before the snap , left or right , or middle . Only 3 ways to run . We have no I repeat no, passing game . When we pass eveyone knows long and deep going for the end zone , a good bet for that is Over thrown or under thrown a catch you will win a few times in a game . Money bet is next play a punt . That means the 1 and 2nd down plays were a run right or left , maybe into the center of the line . ( 9 in the box waiting for the run , they do not worry about the pass. WHY?)
@msully With the way Bama overloads a side so much on designed running plays I don't see that as a good comparison. There's a H-back or T-end assigned to that LBer
OK Terry LOL, maybe I am looking from "Rose Colored Glasses " And yes they do , but there are not but 3 ways to run unless you run backwards . Sometimes I bet on backwards . "Bama" is a good to great team . I am not sure we know just how good they are . But when it all comes down after Bama beats Auburn , I will be on the Saban wagon for a few weeks . After they get their next NC I will be back to normal, GEAUX TIGERS !! GEAUX!!! After all we do have a "SEC Family Dinner on the Ground" each week in the SEC PS I have thought about trying to join your forum , as msully . Just not sure I could handle all the abuse I would get just from my ball cap, . I have a bet on "Bama " to be in the NC game , I do not spend much time , in sports research , spend most of my time with one of Mr Ovation's daughters on my lap. A six string guitar , I hit the vegas odds , at the start of the season , and during the season To me football is like being in Tiger Fan, a break with a cup of coffee . Gets my mind off of what I am trying to do with Mr Ovation's daughter . Well, it is time to wrap my mind around a memory one more time
