Very interesting. In Crowton's defense though and looking at the 2nd part of your post:

    1. Sounds like Crowton doesnt have confidence in the passing game and wanted to get the run established. (In which case he is RIGHT not to have confidence in the passing game and should focus on the run. He know's JJs strengths/weaknesses as well as anybody.)

    2. Early focus on Ridley by Crowton. (In which case he was right again. From the posts here, sounds like Ridley was the bright point of the night offensively.)

If JJ is the problem (very BIG if), then its wrong to hang that on Crowton. Expecting him to have a nice passing game without a capable QB? Well, that would be a ridiculous expectation.

Receivers were getting open early and often in Crowton's offense. But passes were getting thrown poorly. If Jefferson were to have hit those receivers with good passes, in stride, then Crowton and Jefferson would both look like heroes.

    A complete joke?

How are the Tigers doing at the most important skill position? Maybe the struggles at QB explain a thing or two? Ya think?

I'm a big believer in pragmaticism and accountability. From what I'm reading, sounds like JJ took a step backwards. He's got quite a few starts under his belt now. You've got to figure the clock is ticking on his time as a starter IF the coaches feel they have another viable option at QB. If we dont have a viable QB, then we are screwed and there is nothing the coaches can do about it at this point.

But one cannot hang too much blame on Crowton. Not fair. Crowton is severely hamstrung if he doesnt have quality QB production. There is not an offensive coordinator in the world that is going to have a "WOW LOOK AT THAT" offense without decent QB production.

ALso have to take into account that Miles has been preaching we need to establish the run first and foremost throughout the spring and fall and he showed that. That will benefit the passing game.

But another thing to remember that Miles took over in the 4th Qtr with a lead and running the ball was going to be the focus anyway to run the clock and end the game with a W.

I think the main problem last night was play calling and not just on passing plays. Too many no yardage plays and going back to those same plays over and over including the option.

    Positives:
    We got 70+ plays off
    Rushing continues to improve
    D-line is performing (sacks.. yay!)
    O-line continues to look better
    Only 3 penalties this game.
A very young team is starting to get it together.

Honestly, I'll accept the playcalling if the rushing game is effective. But even with that they need more out of the QB to keep the other team guessing. We can not be successful in the SEC with a one dimensional offense.

what i don't get about Jefferson in this game is that he is normally pretty accurate. I'm willing to say this game is an aberration but the man needs to improve quickly or else he needs to be benched and I just don't think he's going to be able to improve.

Crowton is not only the OC he is the QB coach. He is directly responsible for the progress or lack there of. JJs performance is on his shoes as much as JJ.

The defense was fantastic last night. But, one thing that bothers me is that Vandy's offense was actually WAY worse than ours. The DLine played very well in both games (better last night though), but can they hold on to that against teams like bama and florida? Although, from what I've seen at florida's games, their OLine isn't that great either (if you count all the drops and mistakes... LSU's defense will be all over that).

As for JJ, I saw several (at least 2 that I can remember) occasions where he had an eternity to decide on a receiver, but launched an inaccurate pass right after the snap. Maybe he panicked, but aside from those decisions, he has at least shown some improvement in taking some time to step into the pass (when he does pass that is). I think JJ's biggest issue is in making quick decisions and then following through... passing well in stride.

By the way, (and sorry to go off topic a bit here) has anyone seen any numbers anywhere showing how many total yards Vandy LOST due to penalties? Wow, I don't think I've ever seen as much loss due to penalties as I did last night!
