After 8 months of preparation we get this as our reward? Well hang up the hats, take down the flags and put away your favorite jersey. We will just have to look forward to Basketball season or the next Baseball season or maybe we can pick up the NFL next week.

Cmon Guys!! Give it a rest. Are there issues that need to be addressed? Will we need to make adjustments? Did we get to see our weaknesses exposed? Absolutely! We received some very valuable lessons, got our report card and walked away with a Win.

If you have Faith in these players and this coaching staff then you can step back from the ledge and take some comfort in knowing that this will get fixed. This was the first game of the season. A number of changes have occurred in the off season and this was the first time to put a lot of things into a live fire competition against a true opponent. Not only that, put them to test as a visitor to a highly charged stadium of 70,000 at night with a fan base that was obviously hungry and highly charged. Not only hungry for a win but hungry to pounce on an SEC opponent who has two BCS Championships in hand and is one of the premier programs.

Spread Offenses have always challenged us and even when the defense was confused they never broke. Yes they bent and gave up a lot of yards but up until the 4th quarter when they started running out of gas, they came up with enough big plays to keep this game under control against a highly talented offense. Several players answered the call and you should be very encouraged. Yes they gave up a lot of yards but there were some great plays out there. No need to call Peterson's name yet again but WOW! Also, I was really encouraged by the number of times that I saw D Linemen on the move and in the mix.

When our usual suspects on Offense were shut down (Scott, Lafell) others stepped up (Tolliver and Williams). Our young QB showed you that he can be counted on to lead in a hostile environment. I know any questions I had on his ability to play tough were answered clearly and I am an even bigger Jefferson fan than I was before. All of this and we didn't unveil other coveted weapons that will be out our disposal in the coming weeks.

The bottom line is this team traveled a long distance, played in a highly charged environment against a team that had every reason to put it all on the field and we won. Washington will prove in time what a test this game really was. Also remember that most improvements happen between game 1 and game 2. Have faith! This team will be there and they will play competitively and they will bring home Wins. You are not going to dominate the first game of the year. So start looking realistically at the situation and stop being so ready to toss it all out the window.

    The Tigers will prevail!

Good post 420. There were definitely bright spots, and we will improve. The defense did seem to make adjustments at halftime for some improvement, and if they are reminded of how to tackle I think we will be in good shape. The offense will be potent.:geauxtige

There were some problems. Any time you transition to a new coordiantor, head coach, etc, there is an adjustment. I am going to maintain faith in Miles. These problems will be addressed. This coaching staff is too veteran and the talent on this team too deep to let these things persist. Geaux :milesmic:, staff and :geaux:.

Good post 420! We got a season opening win against a big time conf. opponent, on the road, our first game with a new DC, with a young QB. That's all good. There is a lot to improve on IF we're going to challenge for a trip to Atlanta, but there usually is after game 1.

Maybe we'll see Crowton open the playbook a little more now that JJ has a game under his belt this year. We do need to get ready for Ga.

I saw some concerns, but our coaches have adjusted and improved in previous years, so I'm optimistic!

I think we have had a well balanced set of threads addressing issues as well as applauding those that performed well Saturday night.

If people are that sensitive to criticism then maybe they shouldn't be on a forum in the first place.

For myself, I want to be able to debate points of contention and face reality.

And this coming from one of the most optimistic LSU posters on here.

I watched the it again twice. Im off the ledge now. It was the playcalling on both sides of the ball. Also, poor tackling on defense and bad angles. I think all of this will be fixed. We didnt use all of our playmakers and the offensive line needs alot of work.

After looking at the defensive line Im alot less concerned now. Nevis, Downs, Alem, and Chauncey A. (sp) will be fine. Levingston needs to be in a back up role. He also needs to play Montgomery and the other kid i cant think of his name right now.
Linebackers did an ok job. But we have to find a consistent starter at Left cornerback. Jones mistakes are fixable. Harry Coleman, Patrick Patterson, and Cutrera were the bright spots on defense.

By the way, I also happen to think this is one of the best top to bottom coaching staffs we have had in Baton Rouge. Another reason I am confident that all this will become just a building block to a good season.

On another note ... good thing Peterson made so many plays, it gave the commentators enough practice to get his name right and quit calling him "Patterson".

I agree with that. I've read some interesting analyses from posters who know their football. The ones I respond to are the crying children who are upset that their fun was ruined.

You mean "well-balanced" threads such as these?

JORDAN JEFFERSON LAUGHING AND JOKING AT THE END!!?!?!?!
We are going to get mauled in the SEC again
We use to have a defense
    NO DEFENSE!!!!

The reality is that we had the typical rash of Chicken Little threads following a bad performance, and now people have sobered up, calmed down, and realized that the season is, in fact, not over based on the results of a season opener on the road. While we have had good threads with rational discussions such as this one, these popped up within hours of the final score, and were clearly meant to vent, not have a sane conversation.
