Anyone staying in Birmingham? Went online today to book a room and they had a lot of hotels with rooms still available and cheap also.

Cool I'm leaving friday morning. Anyone else staying in Birmingham? What's there to do in B'Ham Friday evening and Sunday morning? Any good eats, things to see?

Birmingham has a good number of great restaurants. You should be able to find something for just about any taste ...

    Some of my favorites are:

BBQ - Full Moon and Dreamland
Thai - Surin West, they have good martinis and great Sushi! (5 Points)
Mexican - Cocina Superior in Homewood
Breakfast - The Original Pancake House (5 Points)

If you're looking a little more upscale I would highly recommend:

Highland Grill - Try the Baked Grits appetizer (5 Points)

Want to hit a cool little locals bar ... try the Garage in Southside.

If you want to catch some ball games and get surrounded by a well dressed staff you need to check out the Tilted Kilt on Hwy 280. There is very little left to the imagination ... you might be challenged to watch the games.

There are a bunch of other great places to eat. We have a lot of chains like Flemings (awesome steaks), McCormick and Schmicks, Bonefish Grill etc as well as local spots. Let me know what kind of stuff you like and I will give you some recommendations.

As for things to do ... well there are a bunch of great golf courses around town. We also have the normal stuff, Imax, Museums, Theatres etc. You can always go up the mountain and look at our big statue ... Vulcan! If there's not a football game, a race or a concert going on I'm not sure what else we do around here but eat drink and golf.

I would suggest camping at Lake Lurleen State Park but I reserved one of the last available spots for that weekend. We'll have a fire and a big pot of gumbo Friday night for anyone close-by. My bro-n-law has been trying to get a reservation there for weeks but no openings yet.

Awesome! I'm not sure exactly what we will be cooking but I'm sure Jambalaya is on the menu one night. We are in an RV lot about 3 blocks from the Stadium.

there are a few rv sites and 5 tent sites at deerlick campground, go to recreation.gov and under park or facility type deerlick and that should connect you to the info. This is a US Corp of Engineers park that is very nice.

There were 2 RV sites available. The tent sites don't have electricity though.
