Breaking news out of Dallas this morning: A second healthcare professional who had contact with Duncan has ebola and is in isolation at Presby Dallas. This patient is a man, probably also in his 20's, because he lives in a huge "singles" apartment complex called The Village. This is where many a recent college grad moves to live and party.
Nonchalance. They were too busy telling us how impossible it is to get ebola that they weren't even focused on how you actually can get it. It is funny that if you were concerned with the spread of the disease you were thrown into into the panic camp. Now there are two healthcare workers who have contracted it.
So obviously it is easier to contract that what we were being told. Did this 2nd healthcare worker actually contract it AFTER it was known the 1st healthcare worker had it? At that point, more stringent protocols were obviously being enforced regarding protecting of oneself in treating Mr. Duncan. If so, that's makes it even more scary.
I don't think it's come out yet when this worker was treating Duncan. One of the really scary things is that since Duncan died a week ago, these workers were certainly treating other patients after Duncan died and before they were hospitalized.
Protocol was to cover exposed skin with medical tape. Porous medical tape. Duncan was projectile vomiting and having diarrhea. There were body fluids everywhere. The healthcare workers were constantly exposed to the potential of becoming infected. What we were told was an outright lie. A big fat fucking lie. These nurses had no support. But now things are supposedly different. Clay J faces re-election in a month. http://www.dallasnews.com/news/metr...-describe-confused-response-to-ebola-case.ece
Exactly right. This situation has now become a pathetic cover up and exposes all the problems with the story the CDC wanted to push and have us all believe. There was NO protocol is the truth. Nurses had little to no training, they were putting tape directly on their skin where there was no protection, some being told not to wear face shields, no tape at the wrist between the glove and suit, patient zero not put in isolation in the ER, contaminated clothes piled to the ceiling. And the ones who are speaking out want to stay anonymous. This is all so wrong in so many ways. I feel sorry for all the workers at Dallas Presby who took care of patient zero. Shame on those administrators who apparently did not put their safety #1. They still haven't made any progress in building a special iso unit despite what the CDC has recommended. The one good thing I heard is that Nurse Pham is reportedly doing better after the blood transfusion. I hope and pray she continues to recover.
So not only did this second nurse, a female, travel by plane after treating patient zero, she also had a temp when she boarded the plane. And this just a few days after NBC's medical "expert" Dr. Nancy Snyderman apologized for having broken quarantine to pick up some food. And Americans are supposed to be so much smarter, more prepared, and honest than West Africans? I'm not seeing it right now. Both of them should have known and done better.
No, I'm sure that would be somewhere in Oak Lawn. The Village is a huge community around Greenville and Lovers.
I think this demonstrates the smugness in the American attitude. Oh, it will never happen here. If it does, we have the best medical facilities that it won't be a problem. It will be an isolated event. I'm just going to carry on with my life as normal. The CDC issued repeated warnings to hospitals to prepare for a case. Presby, who I initially defended, had no response plan nor was there a resource that had an initial response. They were left to make it up when Mr. Duncan was admitted. They allowed the patients and staff to be exposed due to lack of preparedness. We do have the resources and capability to contain this but we were hit in the mouth from day 1 with Mr. Duncan. Sunday comes the 21 day incubation period for the initial exposures. No one has exhibited signs yet. The secondary patients are hospital staff who were directly exposed. There are probably more who will become infected but the quick recognition of the first symptoms should cover any other people they exposed. As long as they don't fuck around and take trips or go for fast food runs. Ridiculous. Yes, I shouldn't worry too much about ebola. The hospitals, CDC, govt officials like Clay Jay, they should be on the highest alert and not prance around like it is no big deal. They are eating crow right now. Does crow carry the virus?
