Not about winning or losing but the field was both a disgrace (can deal with that) and an insult (can't deal with that) to PSU/LSU/SEC/Big10 and of course the sponsor Cap One. Incredible. I sent my email to NCAA. Have you?????
Before the invention of the BCS, the Cotton Bowl used to be a pretty prestigious game. Somehow, the Fiesta Bowl supplanted it. I don't ever remember hearing of the Fiesta Bowl before the BCS. Why? Do you think anyone that matters is actually going to read it? And even if they did, what do you hope to accomplish? Not like they're going to schedule a re-match or anything. In addition, there's already a plan in place to install synthetic field turf for next year, so it's not something that's likely to happen again.
Yep, those the 'BCS' bowl games 'back in the day'. And they were all played on Jan. 1st. They didn't spread them out over a week like they do now. (But I'm not complaining because at least there's a game on every night).
The chatter out west is Boise State may join the Mountain West (TCU, Utah, BYU, AF, etc.) and seek the Fiesta as their auto-bid. The auto-bid is based on the BCS adding the Cotton Bowl as another BCS bowl... and the Cotton locking up the Big 12 champ leaving the Fiesta with no conference tie-in. Selfishly, I would love to see the Cotton Bowl get into the BCS rotation. I live in the Metroplex, and it would be great for us. All that the Cotton Bowl needed was a proper venue--now they have the most impressive structure in all of sports. What more do they need? For what it's worth, watching the Cotton Bowl yesterday, I cursed Ole Miss for losing to Mississippi State because I would've loved to have seen our speedsters out on that turf, as our record on turf is stellar. That field surface in the Capital One Bowl was beyond disgraceful, and it did affect the game--big time. I'm with Lafell, I've never even seen a high school stadium in such poor condition, inclusive of St. Helena Central High and the old municipal stadium in New Roads.
Apparently they caught hell after the game...but, Citrus Bowl?:insane: AstroTurf Coming After Muddy Citrus Bowl Embarrassment Posted: 11:33 pm EST January 2, 2010Updated: 9:46 am EST January 3, 2010 Comment On This Story ›› ORLANDO, Fla. -- Plans to install artificial turf in the Citrus Bowl were already in place, but after the grass turned into an embarrassing mess of mud during the nationally-televised Citrus Bowl, the plans have now become a bigger priority. Coaches and players from Penn State and LSU complained the field was the worst they played on. City officials told Channel 9 the conditions experienced this weekend pushed up the time-table on installing artificial turf. Officials plan to have it in place before next year's bowl games. i would never accept an invitation to play in that crap stadium again. Here we have Ole Miss getting to play in front of close to 100,000 in a brand new stadium on January 2nd, mid day, while LSU fans have to wake up with hangovers on new years day to watch the Tigers play in rain and on quicksand. Fudge Orlando.
