Astro turf will make for better field conditions, but just as a principle I don't like it used in outdoor stadiums. Astro turf has its problems too. Natural grass and the problems that can sometimes come with it are just part of the game. The real problem here wasn't with natural turf per se, but with the decision to have so many high school games and another bowl game played just prior to the Capital One Bowl.
I agree it's not the greatest but I've been to six games this past decade (2-BCS, 2-Sugar Bowl, 2-Chick-fil-A Bowl) where we kicked ass on turf...and three (2-Capitol One, 1-Cotton Bowl) where we lost on grass. I'll take the turf. :hihi:
It should be a slap on the face for the Cap One Bowl; I agree that is poor planning to save a heavily used up field for a big bowl game at the end. How about natural turf in a retractable domed stadium?$$$
Looks like the key is to avoid the Cap One bowl, and Cotton Bowl (bad luck) unless they change. Better still, aim for the BCS Bowl:thumb:
I'm not sure what you were getting at with the Cotton Bowl. I went to the Cotton when we played Texas. That stadium and surrounding area were jokes. However, watching the game today, the SEC should make the Cotton higher ranked than the Capital One. The Cotton Bowl has a permier facility now and much more money in production.
not to mention, it is closer for some of us. if jerry jones and the cotton bowl committee have half a brain they will use the cap one bowl's field condition (and the over-all facilities) a big issue in trying to get the cotton upgraded in standing.
Oh yes, I was thinking of the old Cotton Bowl; the new one is all 21st century:thumb: Still, a BCS bowl is better than the Cotton!
Interesting point; but can they actually do that??? Does anyone know how the bowl standings were decided? Does it hinge on sponsorship?
Jerry Jones and the Cotton Bowl want to return to the big time and will attempt to overtake a BCS bowl to get into the rotation. God forbid we discuss replacing the little meaningless game they play after the nice parade in Pasadena so they'll probably make a run at the Orange, Sugar, or Fiesta. The SEC needs to ensure the Sugar remains the recipient of the SEC Champion. Regarding the Cap One...I know I won't get it but I would like a partial refund for the horrible stadium, parking, area, and field. $80/ticket was far too much for what we received. Tiger Stadium would've been a much better venue!
true. greenie and i were talking about this last night. the cotton needs to go for the sun, moon, and stars, and hope they get at least the sun. then if not big time, have a foot in the door and make another run. and another. and a reason to keep the sugar in the rotation and as the sec champ bowl, is it is a domed stadium. another reason jerry and the cotton can (and should) make a run at the big time.
