I didn't blame the loss on the field but after sitting in that stadium for four hours today I'm telling you this is NOT acceptable for any college football game...much less one with two top programs. Simply put...it's a dump! If they're not going to imrove the stadium, field, etc....then move it to UCF or a REAL stadium.
I'm still in Orlando and the Orlando Sentinel has several articles blasting the field conditions. Brandon LaFell said this was the worst field he has ever seen in his life. The East/West Shrine game is here in a few weeks so we'll see how serious they are about improving the field. The high school championships will be in the Citrus Bowl again next year so unless they go with artificial turf, you can expect poor conditions again next year. The SEC needs to make demands and consider withdrawing for a year or two until this is resolved. If they settle for a lame excuse that "they're working on making it better", we'll be stuck with the same conditions for several more years. The $175 million renovations are on hold so don't expect any major improvements next year. What an embarrassment for Orlando and the Citrus Bowl! :nope: Totally unacceptable! Thankfully we didn't have any major injuries like Miami did. That kid should sue the Citrus Bowl.
greenie thought i was over-exaggerating a bit when i said the same thing yesterday. i told him i think both the sec and big 10 conf commissioners need to demand changes with turf and management (that was piss poor planning and management of the facility) or that the bowl be moved to a different site like the new ucf stadium, or they will pull their conferences from the bowl. at some point, money be damned. both lsu and psu are lucky they didnt have a player seriously hurt.
The announcers said during the game that they were putting in artificial turf in time for next year's game.
I drove by it and it looks nice. :thumb: I don't know the capacity but I think it's only 40K-45K. Just give 30K seats to the SEC and the remainder to the Big 10. :hihi:
i certainly hope so. but then again, they could just let dandelions and crabgrass grow in place of what we saw yesterday and it would still be better.
I agree. It was a stupid decision to allow eight high school championship games and the Champ Sports Bowl to be played on the field so close to the bowl game. I understand they will add astro turf for next year. Personally, I don't like astro turf being used on an outdoor stadium. Football is supposed to be played on real grass. The elements are part of the game. Just my opinion.
