If you look at the history of the SEC vs the Big -11 in this bowl, it would indicate that this field has taken its toll on several SEC teams over the past 5 yrs by negating the speed factor.
The announcers stated that they also played a couple of HS State Championship games recently. There has just been a lot of play recently and the field hasn't had time to recover. There hasn't been too heavy of rains in Orlando in December (outside of the 1 in on Christmas Day). They are calling for rain tomorrow and on gameday, so I suspect the field will be pretty sloppy. Hopefully we have the longer cleats in and can hold our footing. A slow, muddy track is not good for us, and shifts the advantage to PSU, as some of our team speed is nullified.
Only comparison I can think of is that Monster Trucks work much better in the mud than do Nascars. Not good.
Ya, I'll be holding my breath anytime any player goes down this game From Fox Sports.... Cooper was hurt Tuesday when his knee gave way after a misstep on slippery turf late in the first half of Miami's loss to Wisconsin in the Champs Sports Bowl. He led the Hurricanes (9-4) with 695 yards rushing this season, and his 2,218 career yards places him No. 5 on Miami's list. Now, there's a strong chance he won't play again until 2011, although more tests are planned to determine the exact nature of the injury and develop a timetable for surgery. "It's very bad," the person said after some members of the team returned to Coral Gables, Fla., on Wednesday morning. On the play that featured the injury, Cooper picked up a short kickoff at the Miami 24, burst through a hole and seemed poised for a long runback. Near midfield, he planted his knee in what players described as sandy turf -- large divots appeared in the surface all game long -- and the joint gave out. Cooper collapsed quickly, squeezing his knee tightly with both hands.

I recall the field not being in great shape the last time we played in the Citrus Bowl. I also recall marching in a silly little parade where all the floats were covered in citrus fruits.
