Hell, yes!!! Now, THIS, is some major buzz folks. I'd put this in the ranks of a Johnny O' Bryant kind of signing--a top 50-ish kid... early. CBS calls Mickey a top 25 guy, but Scout Rivals maybe put him in that 40-70 range. We'll see how he progresses... JOB was a McD AA. In any case, Mickey's an athletic 3/4 who is listed anywhere from 6'7 to 6'8" and 210-215ish. What's interesting is, does this kid make Martin want MORE to sign with LSU or less? Martin may play a little bit bigger at 6'8-6'9" close to 220lb, but is he thinking here, can he play 4 and Mickey play 3? From the tape, I'd say Mickey is more of a versatile 4 than a true 3. It'll be interesting to see if and how these two talented versatile forwards play together. Remember too that you have Deng as well. All of the sudden we've got a more crowded set of 3/4s. Remember that J Martin has stated he won't sign until the Spring, so CJJ was smart to close the deal on Mickey. Alot could happen with Martin yet. I think landing a combo guard now, will keep the CJJ gravy train moving. I like the idea of a Tim Quarterman from GA (6'5" combo, but plays a good deal of point), or Keith Frazier (6'3" SG) also out of Kimball in Dallas. CJJ's Texas ties are gettin' it done now! Stealin' one from HOF Larry Brown! http://rivals.yahoo.com/video/recru...48801187&SIG=52941074043488a093c28d3069388473 Love it!
YES!!!! This is a huge get for Johnny. Along with Odoh CJJ is bringing in some nice size in this class.
More on the Jordan Mickey commitment, and quotes from Mickey and dad... http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2012/09/lsu_lands_jordan_mickey_a_four.html#incart_river Choice makes a lot of sense for him and LSU, just the little things that add up to a LSU signing him over the likes of Ohio State, Ok State and HOFer Larry Brown and SMU. Connections to LSU (James Wright Jr) and N.O. in addition to Johnny Jones and his style of play. Coaching duo of Jones and Kirby. I think this kind of formula will be successful. Closing the deal on top local kids like Martin and Craig Victor are key. Throw in players from TX and MS and beyond, and you have a perineal top 15-20 kind of program again. What intrigues me is this Jones "4-out, one in motion" offense that Mickey likes. If you read into that, don't expect these hulking double post line ups of LSU past. No Shaq and Roberts, Bass and Big Baby, Thomas and Big Baby, Hamilton and JOB. Expect guards, versatile wings and mobile bigs. That says to me that JOB will play the "one in" this year, and we'll see guys surrounding him in motion. A line up of JOB, Courtney/Ludwig playing perimeter 4, Coleman at 3, a toss up at 2 (Morgan, Stringer, Carmouche) and Hickey at point. But, don't be surprised if we go even smaller by having Courtney/Ludwig give way to Coleman, and guy like Hammink/Morgan shift in. It also leads me to see a place for Martin and Mickey to play together. I think both of them will have to play on the perimeter more and based upon film, I see that as an interesting call. I see Jarrell Martin as laterally quicker even though he's slightly taller. Mickey has more of a true post game than Martin with a back down turnaround, but I think right now he has a better spot up J than Martin. Martin I can see as more of a slasher type from 15 feet in, so playing with Mickey he'll have to hone his outside shot and at the same time refine his post moves. Regardless, I think CJJ can paint a picture where his offense will be good for both players in helping them develop better into NBA forwards. Odoh then mans the middle and future bigs will need to be tall, shot-blocking guys with mobile feet. It's an exciting brand a ball for sure. Add some guys who can bring the ball down quick, move around quickly and hit the bomb, and you've got some very different style of play than Brady and Johnson ball. Keith Frazier sort of excites me more as a Marcus Thornton sort of SG, guy who is just a scorer. LSU's past legacy teams that filled the PMAC had that. Pistol, HiC, CJackson, and more recently Thornton. We haven't a guy who could just score "at will" since him. The Trent years were marked with some decent players that needed the system to score. Jones would love to recruit (and has the system to do so) a guy who can at times take the game over with his scoring. For me, that is also a bellweather indicator of the program evolving for the better. More star power = more butts in seats. So, if Frazier is thinking about that, he's probably more that player than Quarterman who is more of a heady set 'em up combo guard with a nice stroke. Keep it rollin' CJJ and staff!
Well Finally, A real live honest to goodness High School 4 Star Recruit. Took a while but he seems to be a good one, keep it going coach! I just hope we can get half of those players Hornland is talking about, but I would be blown away(happy) to get em all!! Geaux Tigers!!
Reggie Rankin @ReggieRankin Breaking News: just spoke with ESPN 100 PG Tim Quarterman he is a LSU Tiger!! Story with quotes coming! http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/ http://insider.espn.go.com/college-.../player/evaluation/_/id/162855/tim-quarterman http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Tim-Quarterman-132519 http://stanford.scout.com/a.z?s=18&p=8&c=1&nid=6256894 We know one thing about Coach JJ, he is serious about recruiting! He is listed as a 6'5 pg but it said he can play and defend multiple positions so i'm thinking 1-3.
More info on Quarteman Rankin called him a "major sleeper" and "one of the more versatile perimeter players" in the Class 2013. http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2012/09/tim_quarterman_gives_lsu_baske.html http://rivals.yahoo.com/video/recruiting-basketball/Quick-Look-Tim-Quarterman-1106816 "Tim Quarterman, 2013, Atlanta Celtics: As mentioned above, Quarterman made plays at both ends of the floor. He was extremely active defensively and in the passing lanes, and he also showed an ability to handle the ball and create players for others if needed." http://www.cbssports.com/collegebas...ng/19566348/adidas-invitational-day-one-recap To answer your question Tom, we have 2 more spots left for next years class. It's no secret that Jarrell Martin is the top priority. I'm not a connected man I get most of my info from the net and other message boards but the word on Martin is that he's LSU's to loose. He's waiting til spring to commit and in the mean time enjoying being wooed like a top 10 player. The team that worries me the most is OSU. Butch has La ties and Martin was a freshman at Glen Oaks when Brian Williams was a senior and the 2 seem to have a friendship. Getting Martin would make me happy and I would be fine with that class but two other guys that could make this a top 5 class Kieth Frazier and Brian Bridgewater who played for the same AAU team Houston Hoops. Bridgewater has been talked about for years on this board so i'll skip to Frazier. Frazier is a 6'6 two guard who has above average athleticism and good court vision. I've seen him ranked between 20 and 35 or so. My hope is we get Martin and Frazier to fill out the last to spots and get Bridgewater through the football program (he's being recruited as a TE). That would give us two top 25 players (1 being top 10), two more in the top 100 and two solid Juco guys. I think thats enough for a top 5 ranking! P.S. the other guy featured in this video Derrick Griffin is committed to A&M(football)but out of his own mouth he stated he is a soft verbal, LSU is one of the schools he is looking at and would like to play both sports in college. I'm not big on the two sports athletes, it hasn't worked for us in the past (Spears, Clayton and Martin) but if it could put more bodies on the team and make practice more competitive let's do it! Let's Go Coach Jones!
