    NBA Top 100 Camp

Updates from this recent event and LSU recruits.... Interestingly several LSU recruits appear on the board, albeit towards the bottom end of the performers... But, that's the $10000 question which of these guys will LSU have the best shot of landing? Gathers, Felix, Pollard, Cleare, Reese, Upshaw?

    Rivals' new top150

Rivals released its updated Top 150 for the class of 2012 on Friday.

Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com Ranking - Rivals150 for the class of 2012

Not a lot of changes, but some modest movement. Interestingly a drop for J-Mychael Reese and and a modest one for Malik Morgan. Gathers stays in the 30s. Robert Upshaw (big man from West Coast) and Devonte Pollard (versatile swing forward from MS) move up. LSU continues to be "hanging around" on a lot of folks' lists. But the question now becomes does LSU go out of state or focus on in-state recruits? As folks like Gathers and Felix continue to flirt with out of state programs, will Trent and staff turn up the heat on out of state recruits from MS, TX?

There continues to be a focus here at LSU on bigs and talented wing/forwards. Guys like Devonte Pollard, Gathers and Wanaah Bail, to go along with bigs like Shaq Cleare or Robert Upshaw. But, programs like Arizona and Maryland (now with former TA&M coach, Turgeon) seem to focusing their recruiting efforts hard on the TX/LA kids.

Here are some interesting tidbits on some OOS recruits. Trent would love to see some fall/early season momentum lead to a commitment. But, given some of demand for these OOS prospects, as well as the general attitude that seems to exist with home-grown guys like Gathers/Felix, LSU will be hanging on later it seems. I personally think that landing a home grown kid like Morgan would be very nice, and he's an underrated guy with LSU ties. I just like his game. Gathers just seems determined to play the field, but who knows how strongly he wants to stay close to home and build the program at LSU. Likewise, Felix really seems to be trying to get the offers elsewhere. You'd like to see LSU maybe get another PG in this class, though, just to keep a pipeline of PGs going, but is Felix a top 150 player or not? He doesn't appear on the list, although he seems to be getting offers.

Will be another interesting fall recruiting season for LSU.

    Nike Peach Jam

The prestigious Nike Peach Jam tourney has commenced in S.C. and I would bet that the LSU staff has someone there... Ricardo Gathers apparently had a good first day as the July evaluation period continues in full force...

Can't remember the last major basketball recruit from the New Orleans area to come to LSU.

Wow, that is a tough blow for Trent & LSU. We have been talking about & reading posts on here about Gauthers for two years now & apparently LSU never had a shot. At least not with this coaching staff. Why did we lose him & will we be able to recruit someone as good to replace him?

I was going to post 2 weeks ago that he was going to St. John's. I'm not any kind of insider or scout subscriber, it was just widely reported that STJ had him locked up. I don't think LSU even had a chance with him, unfortunately. It was just a local courtesy to list LSU but I don't think he had any interest in ever playing for us. Kinda like Shabazz Muhammed listing UNLV because he's from the city, but he's going to Kentucky or Duke.

Hornland must be stunned. I woulda thought there would be a posting from him on how things stand now. Maybe its just me but is there something missing with this staff- Intensitity, enthusiasm and most of all recruiting . Is Trent not connecting with the big recruits for some reason?

Can't make someone go to a school when they have don't have a sincere interest, and want to be elsewhere. I would not read too much into the lack of this one signing. It has been clear for a while that he wasn't coming here. The Tigers have upgraded a lot this off-season. To recap: recruits/transfers: JHamilton, JO'Bryant, JIsaac, AHickey - these 4 alone are huge upgrades. Losses: GGreen, ADotson, Populist, and DHarris. That's an upgrade of 4 out of 13 players- roughly 25% of team has changed/improved.

    Stay positive, man!
