Yeah, Tigerbait just released Brian Williams's today, too. Nice to see TB show some sign of acknowledgement that we have a basketball team. Williams is very tough. He's a contrast to the softer guards we've had lately (Martin, Farrer, etc). The more I see of him, the more I want him to commit to LSU.
I agree Williams is now being listed at 6'5 and he seems to be that hard hat kind of guy so he will probably be able to play some 3. I hope CTJ scoops him up!
Has anyone herd much about this guy http://www.maxpreps.com/louisiana/s...d-4c08-b687-afb41d9f9601&urpath=,local,player I've read a few articles that say he's the 3rd best prospect out of Louisiana for 2010 ESPN is pretty hig on him also http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recr...ng/tracker/player?recruitId=75664&season=2010
Indeed. Williams looks like a very solid prospect. He's surprised me with his ability to shoot the deep ball, both on the move and on the spot up. And, Williams looks like he's very athletic taking it to the hoop. Definitely an underrated, but very solid guard, who at 6'4-6'5, could be the kind of player at SG that adds to the backcourt of the future. And, as you mention Mcgee... the spot earlier in this thread on Brian Williams, has a little bit on him. They matched up recently. Brian Williams got the best of him, blocking a shot and watching in Ron foul out. Glen Oaks won that game.
Trent Johnson offered Jalen Courtney in person recently. http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=86070&sport=2#ticker
What do you guys hear about John Wall? I know you're not recruiting him (or Florida for that matter), but there's got to be some news about where he wants to go. I've seen him play in person and I gotta say I'll be following his career
With the abundance of two's and three's coming out of LA next year who would you like to see wearing purple and gold. I know a lot is pending who we finish this year up with (any two of cousins, sidney, riley or magee... magee to strengthen the NO line) would saticfy me. Out of Williams, Galloway and Derenbecker it would be nice to get at least two of those guys. All three would be good but it seems like all three would be collage two's with BW and MD possiblely playing some three. and of course there is a possablity that LG can play a little one. For the one spot i'm sold on Phil Pressey i think he'd be a perfect fit for CTJ controlled fast break offense. The bigs that we have listed for 2010 haven't jumped out at me yet but it this point I have a lot of confidence in what CTJ is doing. What do you guys think?
i have confidence in the way his team is playing, but i have no confidence in his recruiting. i dont mean that in a negative way, its a blank slate. he's got to get some top recruits and show he knows how to put together a roster. im very hopeful.
Great question, and it's one that I've alluded to earlier... which is how do you really recruit LA in 2010? First, to Gumbo's point, I'd agree basically that while CTJ has clearly shown he can coach, it remains to be seen whether he can truly recruit. Funny thing is, earlier in CTJ's career he was known for his recruiting not his Xs and Os. Clearly, the guy CAN recruit, but I think a couple of things are going on. One, he's not a known commodity in the South, he's a west coast guy who spent some time in Houston, but unlike Brady and Butch who clearly had MS, LA and AL ties, this staff is largely not from LA. Keith Richard is the closest thing to that, and his recruiting record has been ok. I think it's going to take a year or two, for the LA high school/AAU system to get to know Trent, but I think that's generally going well and he's headed towards a spot better than Brady had. Let's face it, with Trent at the helm, I do think LSU can be a consistent winner and competitive in the SEC, signing 3 star players from LA, if he can gain a foothold here. That said, I think Trent's reputation (for developing NBA players), if folks look into it, is compelling--and it's not outrageous to expect that Trent sign a couple 4-5 stars every year. That's why you have a kid like Aaron Dotson signing with LSU from Seattle. I remain positive that CTJ will surprise us with some Spring signings... he may not get Sidney or Cousins, but I think a solid JUCO pick up, maybe a big man like Riley, or even a local kid that will surprise. Even if it isn't a stellar class, I give him a year or two to find his way. But, that brings us to 2010. That's when we really see what CTJ is made of. Big LA class, with very good talent, and a year and half gone by. I think clearly the fact that LSU is challenging for the SECC, folks are paying attention. Especially NO, and traditional programs like GO, CLA, Richmond-Monroe, Reserve Christian, where the good HS programs want to see their kids go somewhere the coaching is excellent and their kids make noise. 2010 poses the unfortunate situation of a lot of guards/wings to choose from and not enough bigs (you haven't even brought in Ron McGee or Cendric Jenkins into the discussion, who are also highly rated). I would love to sign all three as said, b/c I honestly think that LG could back up Bo at point or play some 2, BW is a true college 2 that can play 3, and MD would be a solid 3 who could play 2. I think realistically, it's unlikely to happen. If I were looking to sign LA players, I really like BW even though he's not rated the highest--he's a local kid who's big and versatile. I actually like MD for his shooting and pipeline to NO. I think the mystery here is Galloway--he's local and he's versatile (but sort of a tweener), but I'd also love to sign Pressey from TX. Pressey is a true PG that would be a great step on the accelerator counterpoint to Bo Spencer. I think though, that there's a lot of unknowns as to how Pressey would impact LG's decision, and vice versa. All I know is Pressey will be hard for the Tigers to sign given who he's looking at. So, we're back to wanting all three of the LA kids. But, I'd like to see BW and MD commit early, then let the LG/PP chip fall. :geauxtige BE A PART OF THE TRENT JOHNSON ERA.
