It'll be interersting to watch, but what I can say is that with Turner and Derenbecker, both at 6'5" to 6'6", LSU is getting a serious upgrade in guys on the perimeter who can shoot, handle enough and not turn it over, and pass. I think both kids will need to develop more physically, but Turner's in a position right now to help guard SEC kids, and Derenbecker will probably get out on the court earlier at the 3 spot, where he may not need to be on the fastest guys for the other team. The ironic thing about Derenbecker is he may end up competing with his former teammate, Eddie Ludwig, for time at their "ideal" position, which is the 3. Although for now, I see Eddie playing more at the 4, Eddie's probably more interested in floating outside a little bit more. In any case, if you watch footage of Stringer, Turner and Derenbecker, you're thinking to yourself--man, we could use those three point shots on this team right now.
Look out - we lead for KC Ross-Miller and he's committing to a school on the 20th. http://lsu.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1047431
Hmmmm.... interesting. I like the approach given that I think K-C is a good player (appears to be a fairly good shooter with the ability to drive to the hoop), and I think more importantly Trent wants to establish a relationship with God's Academy up in Dallas. I take the article to mean that Trent extended an offer and the family will visit, but not necessarily that it's a yes for sure. The other thing that I wonder about though is we already have Andre Stringer signed at the position, and you'd love to see that schollie go to a big man. However, I think Trent's seen enough SEC play to realize that you can survive in the SEC West without a 7 footer, you can't survive without good guards. I guess I agree with this at some level, although if this commitment comes to fruition, you arguably have 4 point guards on scholarship--Spencer, Bass, Stringer and Miller. I suppose there is some ability to play Spencer at SG, and Bass, well, he's got to bring his A game. Are there enough minutes to play both Stringer and Miller down the road? Well, there's definitely some healthy competition then. I am real bummed that Moses Abraham seems to be drifting farther and farther from LSU...
Yes, supposedly, the visit is going pretty well. Thankfully, Miller and his dad saw a pretty valiant effort Thursday night and hopefully, today's contest won't be too bad and there'll be a good crowd for a pretty over matched LSU team. Here's some good scoop on the Miller kid... http://lsu.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1048547 If Miller commits to the Tigers and signs, that'll be the last open schollie going into 2012. 2011's got commitment, John Isaac, a 6'3" combo guard (best player arguably in LA), and there was debate about whether we left this one 2010 schollie for 2011. I think Trent's of the mindset that K-C Ross Miller could really help on the perimeter and we need the help sooner rather than later. Of course, this schollie situation presupposes that noone leaves off the team after this season. There's been some skuttlebutt that there will be some people who leave, but that's probably to some degree conjecture at this stage. ...
Not wanting to start a new Bash LSU thread I have a few questions regarding this years basketball team. I know they are just totally awful, (just finished watching the Kentucky game) my question is - How did this happen? If its Brady's fault why did the administration allow him to get LSU in such a bind scholarship wise? I don't believe its TJ's fault even if he didn't recruit anyone to help this year. Recruiting two Koby Bryants is about all he could have done to make a difference with this team. If its because of the dropout or early leaving of players I can kind of understand because Brady sure did have a lot of players leave when he was coach. Why does the NCAA care if a school has a lot of dropouts or transfers? What are they trying to prevent? How will that rule ever help LSU? I know I am just a flustrated fan but what LSU has on the floor this year is a joke & someone should be held accountable. I just think its terrible for T. Mitchell to have to end his career under these conditions. What are your feelings?? Anyone? Sure looking forward to next year but with five freshmen (probably) starting how much better will we really be? :sob: A LOT I HOPE:geaux:
i dont keep up with the scholly #s as much as some but as i understand, the reasons for the current situation are: randolph left early. not much blame there. he was a lottery pick. ctj was unsuccessful in 1st yr recruiting. sort of expected. if he had landed favors or even johnson things would be better. coaching transition (related to previous point). good chance brady wouldve brought in mason-griffin and/or gallon, etc. price you pay for change. heavy sr class last year. lost 5 of top 7 contributors. thats gonna hurt every year. you dont really want this but it did result in a sec title. tas lost a yr and brady brought in two jucos. next yr probably wont be good, but not as bad as this one. wont be 5 fr. spencer and warren will start. if i had to guess id think no fr will start next yr. green (if he grows a spine), warren, ludwig, dotson (if he learns to throw it in the ocean) and spencer.
and why wont bass be back next year????? Dude, practically shut down john wall by himself (seen it in person). Is there something no one is talking about.
