^agreed. I want Turner and Stringer badly. We'd be raining 3's all day. Thanks for the insight on Turner; I had no idea he was that athletic.
I'm not sure this ever got posted here, but if not it sort of completes the Derenbecker commitment news... New LSU basketball player Matt Derenbecker reuniting with former Country Day teammate - LSU Beat Alot of interesting quotes about why Derenbecker ultimately went with LSU, including the coaching staff, Ludwig, and the chance to play near home. Also I found the following interesting... He said his decision came down to Stanford, Virginia and LSU. He said he liked the LSU coaching staff, led by Trent Johnson, who is a former Stanford coach. "They believe they can win with the players they recruit, and they are not always recruiting five-star guys, " Derenbecker said. "They have a great comfort level, and they believe in me." What's interesting is that while we all knew this is what Trent preaches and believes, it's another thing to knowingly promote this to recruits. Could there be those players out there that respect that and want to play with those kind of guys? I think when you look at the pattern of kids that Trent is going after this year, you do see talent, i.e., Gatorade POYs in LA, MS and perhaps AL, in Derenbecker, Stringer and Turner. But, they are by most standards not top 10-20 players, they are top 100 players, who have high basketball IQs. I certainly like the foundation that Trent is building, and Stringer and Turner will hopefully buy into that as well. :thumb: Will that same strategy play with the likes of Ricardo Gathers and company (2012), however, when the time comes? :geauxtige
I'm not saying that it won't, but to date, Trent has not yet convinced a top 25 kid to put the team above himself and buy into Trent's system. I hope Ricardo's spotlight doesn't get the best of him... does he try to get an offer from a UNC, Duke, or someone else, like Greg Monroe or DJ Augustin, or does he continue to build on what Trent is building. If you think about the future of LSU, you see this 2010 class really building momentum. If Stringer and Turner sign with LSU, you're looking at a backcourt/wing line up that is pretty stout by the time that Gathers and the Fab 5 come out. You've got an experienced front-court in White, Harris, Green that are good upperclassmen for Gathers to learn from. BUT, Gathers appears to be heading for McD AA type recognition--and will he respect LSU as much as they will be pursuing him (let's also not forget Felix and the other Fab 5)? That's the question. As for the class of 2010, more summer tourney news... this time Trent is in Orlando, watching Derenbecker and Galloway, both of whom impressed... I'm glad you brought up the orlando tourny Tger....because it will be shown live tomorrow (Sunday) on espnu at 4 pm. Already got it set up to record.
For those of you who have Rivals, they have turned their attention to Andre Stringer, as a key PG prospect for Trent Johnson. http://lsu.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=968508 It looks like Andre has set his official visit to LSU on the Vanderbilt home game weekend. Still neck and neck with Bama and those are the two leaders.
What top 25 kid was in Louisiana or anywhere that he's had a chance to sign?? Monroe and Augustin are Trent Johnson players if I've ever seen them. Monroe went to play in the Princeton offense at Gtown. We would have had a much better chance of getting those two with Johnson as coach IMO. They are "thinking" type players, so they would have fit in well with Johnson.
