Yeah, there's unfortunately not alot of widely available and detailed stuff on the rest of the Peach Jam, but supposedly, Matt Derenbecker, really helped his cause at this tourney. Scout reports that Matt had another couple of good days at the Peach Jam, hitting shots and showing he can score against the best athletes in AAU ball:

Also, rumor was that Andre Stringer, quietly averaged around 20 points in his games... So, I've got to think that Trent is very happy with what he sees from those two (of course that means everyone else is looking too). That's a very nice 1-2 punch to add to potentially a Ralston Turner, or the wings we already have, including Aaron Dotson.... Keep the pressure on Trent!

Yeah, baby. Matt D gets a thread all to himself.

I'm psyched. Hopefully, Stringer will follow suit soon... Then, Turner better get in line too!

Thought you guys might want to see a couple of articles about Ralston Turner. Looks like LSU has a good shot at landing him from the way things sound. Sounds like he had a good showing recently at the Lebron James Camp, which only invites the top 90 high school players. The top 30 players from each position broken down into point/combo guards, wing players, and post players. If Coach TJ can land him and pick up one more top tier player that would make a solid class to build on in the future.

Baltimore products Will Barton, Josh Selby and Roscoe Smith represented their region well at the King City Classic - ESPN

thanks lsubball, although the article above was posted earlier on the thread...

Turner is a tough one to figure out. No doubt that his ranking with ESPN is a little higher than other rankings I've seen (Rivals) based upon early play as a top junior in Alabama. And, I think recently he's tried to expand his recruiting following:

Irish Sports Daily - View topic - Basketball Update: Ralston Turner (Notre Dame)

But, nonetheless, based on what I've seen of the kid, he's a good shooter at 6'6" and uses his size to get long shots over folks. He's not super quick, but has a nice fluidity to his game in getting shots, a little nice dribble to the mid-range jumper. Need to see more of his aggressiveness and taking folks to the rack and defending. But, he's a 6'6" SG/SF who is one of the top SG recruits out of the S.E., and if Trent likes him, then you've got to think that he's got something that would fit well into Trent's system. I worry a little bit about a Turner/Derenbecker line up giving up a little bit of lateral quickness on defense, but both players will have to improve in this area and if they work hard under Trent's tutelage, they should.

We'll get a visit from Turner, so I like LSU's chances--but the kid to focus on right now is Andre Stringer. He's really a difference maker for LSU's line up in the future.

I live in Alabama and have seen Turner play a bunch over the last several years. Just about a year ago he was ranked as a top 10 player in the nation by rivals but they have dropped him recently, my guess is it has more to do with his AAU team struggling the last couple of years. They can also say what they want but I know how the system works and if the recruiting services aren't getting what they want out of prospects that is what they do, drop them down in their rankings. They want you to do interviews, phone calls to get information, evaluations, etc. It is always something and I'm sure it gets old in a hurry. Recruiting services are very shady businesses and often have either someone else's agenda or their own agenda they are worried about. Most other services have him ranked as a top 30-40 player and I believe that is much more accurate. I think CTJ would agree also. He started recruiting him for a reason. Turner is also alot more athletic than people give him credit for. He is plenty quick enough to keep people in front of him on defense when he wants too, but like most top high school players he gets lazy and lives off being bigger, stronger, and more athletic than other players sometimes. When he gets to college that will have to stop and he will be able to defend. He also is quicker off the dribble and jumps better than most think. Has a vertical in the 34-36 inch range and will be able to get in the lane more when in college and people can't sag as much with 3 or 4 guys in the lane waiting on you. I have been involved and around basketball for quite a while and he is going to be a really good college player and personally I think will end up playing in the league with the help of CTJ and developing his game. He has the size at his position and the skills, just needs some developing and experience over a few years. If CTJ is able to sign a really good point guard to go along with Turner, that would be a very good backcourt for the future of LSU basketball.

Thanks for the close to home perspective on Turner. I agree that you can't go too much off of rankings/services, b/c a 2 or 3 star in hoops will more times than not, be plenty good to get you where you need to go. We saw that with Tyrus Thomas, Darrell Mitchell, and plenty of others at LSU. The bottomline with Turner is certainly at a full 6'6", 190, with a nice stroke from the outside, clearly Trent was fixated on him more than Galloway and Williams, who both had their shortcomings and probably fit better or were more "wanted" in other systems. I trust Trent to judge that talent and decide who he'd really like to coach.

Trent has with the last few years really emphasized guards/wings in his recruiting, and we'll start to see how those "Trent guys" will pan out... Bass, Dotson, Ludwig, and soon Derenbecker... all perimeter guys that Trent wanted. I think adding Stringer and Turner certainly bolster a very nice pipeline. So, here's to landing both soon! :thumb:
