For what it's worth, Scout has updated its recruit page for Matt Derenbecker, and included some footage from last week's I-10 Elite camp in Baton Rouge... Scout.com: Matt Derenbecker Profile As folks will see, according to Scout, Matt does sport offers from all of the schools he's listed before in other articles/interviews. He also has committed to a visit date in stone... September 12th. It's also worth noting that within the last few weeks, several of our prospects have been busy, notably in the King City Classic (in the Midwest) and the Lebron Skills Camp, in addition to the I-10 Elite. Not alot of specific mention of Ralston Turner or Andre Stringer at these events, but certainly many have highlighted Jelan Kendrick, who sports a LSU offer, but seems to be a long shot. Let's see what Trent has up his sleeve with these kids... :thumb: opcorn:
Here is a good article on Andre Stringer. Good to read that Trent was there watching both Andre and Jalen Courtney! Celestial surprise | clarionledger.com | The Clarion-Ledger
NICE. :thumb: Thanks for posting the article. Yes, it does appear that Mr. Stringer, could be pretty special. I think a lot of the national pub seems to be falling on another once LSU PG recruit Phil Pressey, but similarly sized Stringer seems to be the much better shooter. The kid can shoot, and that's always going to help you, whether you're 5'9" or 6"+ as a point guard. Seems like Trent knows that he needs to be there constantly--and he does. What about this kid Demarco Cox? Sound familiar to you? Think the reincarnation of Big Baby. A 6'8" 280+ big man center, who plays football, but wants to play hoops first. I think LSU has some experience with that . According to Scout, the kid sports an offer from LSU in football, but also Cox says Duke is one of his leaders . He doesn't compete with Courtney for PT, b/c he is a true big, and he's got to respect Courtney and Stringer likin' LSU. With not a lot of big men on the recruiting horizon until Gathers in 2012, you've got to wonder whether LSU needs the "beef" down low that Cox could bring. I'd like to hypothesize about it, but I can also see Trent favoring a leaner, meaner, more up tempo team... but, I wonder if Les and Trent are talking about this kid. :milesmic:
Cox would definitely be worthy of a schollie, but I don't see Trent offering a center this year. We have Malcolm White for two years, Green for three (may be more of a PF), and Harris for four years (may be more of a PF as well). With those three and Warren and Courtney, IMO Trent isn't going to go after another big man. I see our 2011 class consisting of Isaac and a center prospect.
Scout has Josh Smith the #3 center in the 2010 class showing LSU some interest Scout.com: Josh Smith Profile It doesn't say we've offered but what makes it interesting, J. Smith is from WA were CTJ has a few connects. So yo gotta wonder if someone is in his ear saying look what he did for the Lopez twins!
Yeah, according to Scout though, he has no LSU offer and he's getting tired of the recruiting process and will make a decision soon. He's got offers from mostly everyone on the West Coast, so this is a very long shot. No doubt, Trent does have some pull back in his hometown, but as was mentioned earlier, he must feel more or less comfortable with the bigs he sees practicing for him and he's focusing on bringing in some fire power from the perimeter. My worry is that in the years to come you'll see a much deeper, bigger SEC. Miss St. will have an imposing frontline, as will Kentucky. You add that to an already "big" Vanderbilt, and you've got some clear match up problems for LSU. Now, by the time 2010 rolls around, we'll have White, and a more mature Green and Harris, and who knows what other teams will have (Memphis, er I mean Kentucky, will have a bunch and one and dones, and who know if Riek/Sidney will still be playing for Miss St). But, ALOT hinges on Green's health, which is an unknown right now, and the ability for Harris to gain around 15-20 pounds, which CJohnson never seemed to be able to do. I agree that Trent, if he can land 3 solid players this fall, is likely to hold one schollie over for 2011 and start looking for a big, but I guess my point is you never know how a team will evolve, and if there's a good big now that wants to come to LSU, you should at least keep options open. Right now, I feel decent about Derenbecker, Stringer and Turner visiting LSU in the fall, and you'd like to think as a result, one or two (hopefully all three, of course) of them are in. Alot can still happen in the year as it goes on, though, and there's no telling if we are looking at other prospects later. Also, to this point, we've got two football recruits, that may actually want to play hoops. Pat Swilling Jr. and, if Scout is right, Demarco Cox. I don't know how serious Les is about these kids, but could they play football for LSU and basketball (not counting against the schollie limit)? Both are players that are pretty good in basketball.
Thx, 'Chokes. Here's the link: Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting - Brown on the mark at Peach Jam Both Markel Brown (for those of you who spotted this kid over Langston, kudos) and Matt Derenbecker thumb mentioned favorably, in addition to the Stringer/Trent watching bit... opcorn:
Elite wing prospects Tobias Harris and Terrence Jones battled on opening day of the Nike Peach Jam in South Carolina - ESPN Some good stuff here about Matt D, even mentions 2012 for R. Gathers. Sounds like he's a beast. Oh yea says a thing or two about that guy who committed to St. Joe's :angryfire
