Rivals finally has gotten some coverage of MS 5'9" PG Andre Stringer. http://lsu.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=949088 So, the kid definitely likes LSU, and recently moved up to a 4 star according to Rivals. He's friends with 2010 MS commit, Jalen Courtney, and is a high scoring PG. As has been mentioned, Trent is clearly looking for a quicker PG to run the offense and keep the tempo fast. Hence his zero-ing in on guys like Stringer and Pressey, who match up similarly. Stringer would be a nice pick up in 2010, and it does appear that he's headed for an official visit this fall. :thumb:
Let's also not forget that the AAU hoops season is in full swing and our LA recruits are getting some mention... Particularly, here's what one ESPN recruiting writer had to say about Langston Galloway and Ricardo Gathers... Mike LaPlante: Harrison Barnes and Kevin Johnson were among the showstopper at the Nike Memorial Day Classic - ESPN In another key tournament, Andre Stringer also got mention... Reggie Rankin: Baltimore prospect Roscoe Smith was among the standouts at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions - ESPN
Are there any Centers/Postplayers on the LSU recruiting list?? If so who & where are they located & what are our chances.. Would be neat to have a big strong rebounder in the lineup sometime in the future..
LSU has 3 kids 6'9 or bigger through the 2011-12 seasons. I'd think TJ's immediate priority is wing players, unless you can get a 5 star stud.
wait, wait, wait, wait. im pretty sure that there are only two rebounders and theyre both 6'7". counting on green and harris to bang?
For some reason I thought LSU had two committments for 2010 - both from Mississippi. Courtney is the only one listed on the sites - wasn't there another one or was I just dreaming??
Green & Harris are both on the roster & both are 6-10. Green is a recovering player & is Harris still with us? everyone else is 6-7 or smaller... we need big men!!!! Now!!! Just my humble feelings....
Yes, the big men I believe Deek was referring to were Green (6'10", 235 lb), Harris (6'10", 190-200 lb), and White (6'9", 230 lb). You can debate whether Green is healthy, whether Harris will ever gain weight (see, Magnum Rolle and Chris Johnson), and whether, I guess, White is big enough. However, I'd make the case that having 3 players over 6'9" is a luxury in today's game. Especially, if those players can be versatile enough to do other things. Take into account that for the most part, big men in the college game are slowly disappearing (for the most part), and now the dominant Shaq like center is rare--UNC won the Championship with depth and Hansborough as their center (a 6'9" hard working 240 lb). Assuming Green can be healthy and maybe put on up to 5-10 more pounds, assuming Harris can actually put on good weight (15-20lb), we may be alright generally speaking (remember that White played center for Ole Miss and did generally alright against SEC competition). Now, there are always going to be those teams which create extreme issues for us. E.g., Miss St has signed Renardo Sidney (6'9", 240+) and John Riek (7") to go along side Varnado (6'9" 205), and they will have by all accounts a dominant front line in the SEC. Kentucky will have Patterson (6'8", 235lb), Demarcus Cousins (6'9", 255-260 lb) and Daniel Orton (6'10", 240 lb). Vanderbilt will have Ogilvy (6'11"). But, for the most part, the rest of the SEC does not have dominant bigs, and goes at you with 6'7"-6'9" PFs and Centers (Look at what Tas' was able to do at 6'7" 230). If you want to be critical, I think that like in past years, LSU has the length, but may need to work on the girth. White will likely be a good banger, but will Green and Harris be able to bulk up? Maybe not, but that's generally not the system that Trent wants to run--he'd rather have mobile big men who can set picks, step out and hit a jumper, and be able to play good defense down low, but not necessarily play down low on the offensive end (although he certainly has won with a big man post-driven offense, e.g. Fazekas, Lopez). Nevertheless, I agree finding a 6'10+", 250+ lbs, behemoth who could run like a gazelle would be great. It seems as though in recruiting classes 2010 through 2011, there are not those guys in Trent's sights right now (most bigs are 6'8" wings/forwards). So, that tells me perhaps that he's ok with the White, Green, Harris rotation. R. Gathers in a few years will be a very important get for Trent. He's only 6'6" now, but supposedly is a chiseled man-child down low who can dominate. Let's hope he adds several inches, and commits early to the Tigers. :thumb:
