By the way, who else read the latest Rivals article on Brian Williams? Things do not look positive at all between him and LSU.
Yeah, I saw that and wasn't too happy. Man, it made it sound like BW wanted nothing more than to get whatever "better" offers he could, and he was trying his best during AAU season to land that "Big" school offer. It's hard with these kids--it's like you're damned if you do (i.e., give them the early offer and love) and you're damned if you don't. In any case SG is one of those spots where LSU is definitely trying juggle some balls. Galloway, Williams, Markel Brown, not to mention others. Williams did say, however, that with LSU's schollie situation right now, he wasn't sure where he stood with LSU--if he committed early he was good and if he didn't who knew. Like CTJ believes, you ultimately want players that want to be at LSU. So, if that happens to be the best MS players, so be it if they commit early.
Brady and company had the "You're our guy" mindset with several players and they ended up getting nobody. If Brian Williams wants to play in the Big East, let him go.
With almost all the 09 Louisiana players heading for places other than LSU I guess this thread will be the basketball hotspot. Here is hoping that LSU will be able to get a couple of Local players for the 2010 season. From what I hear there are several that are major college material. Hope we get our quota. Looking forward to November recuriting period.:rolleye33:
So, since really Malcolm White won't play for LSU until the 2010-11 season, Trent has essentially "signed" this new player away from Ole Miss and we can look at this transfer as part of the 2010 thread... http://louisianastate.scout.com/a.z...http://louisianastate.scout.com/2/858957.html http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=3726027 No doubt, having Malcolm White for the 2010-2012 years will be a nice solid addition, and having potentially 2010 be a complete overhaul of the team for future years, with so many spots to fill, is something to look forward to. Unfortunately, the impact of this transfer will be more subtle than immediately on the court in 2009-10.
This is a nice little development. I wonder if Andre is friends with Jalen Courtney. In any case, check out this video on Andre. http://www.fox40now.com/sports/41948302.html The kid is perhaps a little more built than Phil Pressey out of Dallas. But, interestingly it seems Trent is leaning toward the smaller, quicker PGs in 2010. No doubt Stringer is a better scorer than Phil, but not quite as quick or focused on passing. But, at this stage, I'd be very happy with either. Picking up a Gatorade POY for LA (Derenbrecker) and MS (Stringer) would be pretty nice in 2010.
So Tobi O dropped us. He said Coach Trent hasn't made an effort to visit him or even talked to him in a month. I love Coach Trent's court presence, but you gotta wonder what he's thinking on the recruiting circuit.
It may have to do with the fact that we will have about 5 guys to rotate between the 4 and 5 Dennis Harris, Garrett Green, Eddie Ludwig, Malcolm White, Jalen Courtney and Storm Warren(JC and EL are probably 3 and 4 guys and Warren is a 4). None are really true 5's but listed at 6'8 (which probably means 6'7) I don't think Tobi O is ether. Not saying I wouldn't want us to have T.O. but how many scholarships do we have left? and how many LA guys are we trying to get?
Yeah, part of me is a little concerned that we're not showing our TX prospects enough love (seems Phil Pressey is also slowly drifting away from LSU), but part of me basically sees that CTJ is one of those guys that needs to have the players WANT to be at LSU too. Earlier in this thread, I made the point that Jalen Courtney and Tobi are similar players--both 6'8" ish, 200 lb-ers (although Jalen is more physically ready to bang down low, whereas Tobi may be more of a lanky leaper), and what did Jalen's early commitment do for LSU's recruitment of Tobi. As pointed out above, I think Trent is really trying to establish his roots in LA first. The class of 2010 is supposed to be his first class with a full recruiting cycle, and it just so happens to be a very deep LA year with very good (perhaps not All-American) recruits. If Trent only has 3 or 4 schollies to give, would you rather than kids like Langston Galloway, Brian Williams, Matt Derenbrecker, Markel Brown, Ronald McGee or others get those offers or someone else? Look, if there's a stellar out-of-state kid that wants to come to LSU, Trent's still going to offer him (he gave offers to Harrison Barnes, Tobi, Phil, Andre Stringer, etc.) but the kid's got to then be serious about LSU to get Trent's time. I don't disagree with the philosophy, b/c that's what got John and Butch in trouble in LA. They were too busy chasing the kids out of state and ignoring the kids in state. I just hope this pays off with commitments from kids like Galloway, Derenbrecker and Williams. Part of me worries that despite of the product that Johnson is putting on the court, there's still going to be inclination that these LA kids to entertain an offer from a Big East or ACC school more than one from LA. But, hopefully, they'll realize that in a few years, LSU could really be a consistent Sweet 16 or Elite 8 team made up largely of LA, MS, GA, AL and TX kids. (Don't also discount the fact that Trent will coach these kids up and get them ready for the L. Recruits are noticing what happened with Marcus Thornton, and what hopefully will happen with Tasmin Mitchell. :thumb :geauxtige LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. BE A PART OF THE TRENT JOHNSON ERA.
So according to a recent Rivals article, Langston Galloway has been one of the leaders of the Louisiana Select AAU team... the team has had its struggles so far on the circuit. http://lsu.rivals.com/content.asp?cid=940882 The troubling thing about the article is that LSU has seemingly "backed off" or at least hasn't been on him like white on rice of late. What gives Trent? Now, Langston hasn't historically been pro LSU, but still...
