Which coach has developed a point guard that wasn't a great point guard in HS. Basketball fans/scouts knew that Magic Johnson and Larry Bird were great passers in HS. Everyone know that Williams then Duhon were great point guards prior to their enrollment at Duke. The same with Augustin at Texas. Those guys were ready when they stepped on the court. Barnes and Coach K didn't develop those guys they just gave them a surrounding cast. You have to recruit point guards and quarterbacks.
I don't completely disagree with you BUT, what coaches CAN do is implement a system that showcases the point guard. Brady's SYSTEM has never highlighted the point guard, rather, he emphasized a conservative minded, more value the ball, low post offense, which needs an adequate point guard not looking for his shot all the time and not turning the ball over. That's why it surprised me that he recruited a guy like Tack Minor (and TMG for that matter) who were high scoring PGs. Take a system like Coach K, or Coach Williams', and Coach Barnes in recent years, on the other hand. More guard oriented, open court styles, which have showcased their point guards. To some extent, I'd argue that those coaches CAN help the guards some, because they grant their guards some leeway. Perhaps you're just seeing good guards in H.S. get better in college. Rick Barnes can point to TJ Ford, to get Augustin. Coach K can point to about 3 or 4 different guys. Brady could point to.... uh D. Mitchell? At least Trent Johnson could point to Brevin Knight.
with CTJ being a wet cost guy now can we expect to reel in some hig- profile west-coast recruits also about PG's how about this guys I wish CTJ could pull him in http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=8&c=1&nid=1888638 http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=37384&sport=2
NBAONE! What's the low-down in GeO-giah? http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/17894644.html Looks like LSU may be losing Chad Dollar. What's this going to do to our GA recruits? Dennis I'm pretty comfortable with. Does Graham look elsewhere? Does the pipeline into the Atlanta Celtics dry up, or just get squeezed? Inquiring minds want to know...:hihi:
Here are the updated recruiting rankings by CSTV. They also have a list of the top uncommitted prospects. http://www.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/stories/041808aat.html
Johnson has talked with all 4 recruits and all look firm except for Morgan. However, it seems like LSU is still in the picture and he will decide in the next few weeks. BTW, Dollar accepted the position with Brady. http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/17936019.html?showAll=y&c=y
Hearing Butch got an offer and is likely staying and Coach T got an offer to but is interviewing with the Cavs first. I think we are keeping all the recruits now. http://www.pe.com/sports/college/ucla/stories/PE_Sports_Local_D_ucla_web.1caae2d.html
Just to close this chapter, here's today's Advocate report on J'Mison Morgan. Sounds like Johnson is buttering the bread... in other words, expect a nice healthy dose of low-post ball next year! Hopefully it plenty of outside to go with the inside, in the inside-out game. :geauxtige http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/18109884.html?showAll=y&c=y
