I got a chance to check out the TX 4A championship game with LSU recruit J. Morgan and I way a few good things and a few bad things. Unless JM has an outstanding summer he's not a one and done guy. JM is big but not strong, at one point I saw a guy was 6'6 and maybe 210 push him out the was for a rebound. I think I saw JM box maybe 5 times during the game. JM's post game is almost no existent. the tallest person on the opposite team was 6'6 and JM only had 14 points and I think 7 rebounds. JM is kinda slow and on the offensive side sometimes he seems to disappear. On defense he looked really solid he had 5 blocks in the first quarter and he only played about 7 min of the first half. JM's timing was on point and he didnt leave his feet for those silly fakes. His arms are long and he used his length to block shots. With 6 min left in the game his team was down by 11 and JM stepped his game up. I think in that stretch he had 8 points and seemed to be a little quicker getting out on the break for a nice dunk. Now I have to say JM only played 7 min of the first half because of foul trouble which could account forthe low numbers but when he was in the game he did not dominate. The good thing is the bad things I saw could be addressed with a good off season and good big man coaching. He's already big and when he hit's the weights and gets stronger and quicker he will be hard to handle. IF he has a good summer I can see him starting. It would be nice to see a frontcourt line up of JM, CJ and Taz. With Warren and Graham getting some nice minutes. Part of me want AR to declare, only cause at this point he's a lock to be a first rounder and with him gone that gives CJ and Taz mroe time to shine and build up their draft stock. Don't get me wrong if AR stays i'll be happy and we will be more solid but I would love for CJ and Taz's LSU after life to be in the NBA!

MGreen, thanks for the first hand report. It reminds me a little bit of a post I made after seeing some video of Bobo Morgan posted here. That should have been the first tip... "Bobo" is not a nick name I would have picked. Big Baby is one thing... T-Train another. Bobo is a clown.

Seriously though, I think that Bobo is committed to LSU b/c here's a school that is KNOWN for developing bigs, and he is raw. The kid is by no means a "dominant" big yet, hence the relatively low averages. What he is is a big frame, and a kid that's lost a ton of weight to get to 260ish. Good upside perhaps--but not the kind of immediate impact for LSU like AR was. So, I think in some ways, that may be a blessing. B/c unlike you, I do NOT hope that AR goes pro. I see Butch being better about spreading PT around. I don't see JM starting in the beginning, but being a solid 12-18 minutes pg back up center as a freshman--and that may be better to keep our more senior frontline guys happy. We start with CJ, AR and Tas' is added back in the mix--the improvement will be in CJ and AR adding some bulk and a stout Tas' back in the fold. M Thornton and Garrett Temple finish off the starting rotation, with our other decent freshman getting some more minutes (in addition to Bobo, Delwan Graham and Storm Warren as live bodies (but either of which could redshirt), and Dennis Harris as an redshirt understudy to AR or CJ). No doubt, this will be a talented team for somebody to play with.

Tommy Mason-Griffin has apparently decommitted from LSU. This is also a blow to the recruitment of Keith Gallon, if this is true.

Hmmmm... I found this little blurb on ESPN insider. I hadn't heard this, but it sounds like a report that he "decommitted" with the coaching change in March (not like it happened today). But, honestly, he's waiting and watching like everyone else to see who the LSU new coach will be. Obviously, this is another kid that was recruited by Butch. But, at the same time, this is a kid who seemed to really like LSU and would be the PG of the future for the Tigers, in all likelihood.

    http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recr...ng/tracker/player?recruitId=43453&season=2009

That said, it's likely any new coach if not Butch will be a guard oriented coach, who can recruit guards. TMG is a good get, but even this report makes him sound a little Tack Minor-ish :nope:. It's likely that a Ford, Grant or Bennett, would bring in some guards of his own... actually, if it's one of these guys, you can just assume that 2009's class will be started from scratch anyway.

If it's a done deal today with Trent Johnson being named as the next head coach of mens' hoops at LSU, you've got to think recruiting. Randy Rosetta's all over it today, with this report:

    http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/17450474.html?showAll=y&c=y

As I suspect, Johnson will be a very good influence for us in recruiting. While the 2009 class may take a slight turn, I think he's going to open up some very interesting avenues for us.

NBAOne, you got to love this right!? Dennis Harris LOVES the pick. If Butch stays, we keep Bobo (who was also recruited by Coach Johnson), watch out!

It's like a perfect storm (in a good way) coming together on this!

:geauxtige LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL (AGAIN). WELCOME TRENT JOHNSON!

Should we lose Morgan, I hope we throw the full-court press at this guy:

His grade situation is a little unclear, though. He was once an LSU lean, but we stopped recruiting him for whatever reason. He's improved a ton since the beginning of this year.
