Take a deep breath and back away from your keyboard.

The decision on who the next LSU basketball coach is going to be won’t be decided right now — not after one monumental victory at Florida or another heart-wrenching loss to Kentucky.
Butch Pierre didn’t lock up the job because the Tigers played their best wire-to-wire game of the season to thump the Gators. Nor did he lose the job because LSU blew a couple of possessions late in the loss to the Wildcats.
Anthony Grant isn’t out of the hunt after his VCU team suffered an upset loss at home to Old Dominion and recently struggled to beat downtrodden Georgia State.
Travis Ford will remain on the radar despite the fact Massachusetts has lost five of its last seven games and has likely played itself out of at-large consideration for the NCAA tournament.
Those three will stay near the top as the process unfolds regardless of what happens on a game-by-game basis.
Likewise, Johnny Jones of North Texas and Scott Drew from Baylor will remain prominent in the discussion because former LSU coach Dale Brown has strong emotional attachments to both and won’t be bashful about lobbying for both.
The one variable that can and will influence how LSU proceeds with its search is who Indiana pursues after it fires Kelvin Sampson later this week. The Hoosiers job will be the plum opening in this year’s coaching carousel, regardless of how stiff the NCAA penalties might be.
With the IU job back on the market, names like John Calipari of Memphis, Rick Barnes of Texas, Jamie Dixon of Pittsburgh and Mike Brey from Notre Dame could be attached. Those four may be hard to pry away from their current schools, which could create a collateral impact and draw Drew and Washington State’s Tony Bennett into the mix and have a trickle-down effect on the wave of up-and-coming mid-major coaches — including Grant, Ford and Xavier’s Sean Miller.
For now, the LSU search hasn’t gained much steam. Skip Bertman is still weighing the options of which search firm to use — if any. Atlanta-based Parker Executive Search firm is one of a handful of groups being considered, but Bertman may decide he has enough information and the right contacts to proceed without any outside help.
That’s why Grant, Ford and Pierre are, at this point, the most likely candidates for the Tigers job.
LSU system president Dr. John Lombardi knows Grant from his tenure at Florida and he was the president at UMass when Ford was hired to lead the Minutemen. It doesn’t stretch the imagination to think Lombardi, and thus Bertman, could reach out to either of those coaches rather easily through a third party.
And regardless of what you might hear from talking heads or from those who claim to know on message boards, Pierre is in the conversation and will be as long as the Tigers keep playing as hard and effectively as they have since he took over.
Is Pierre at the top of the list? No and he may not get there. That spot belongs to Grant, with Ford close behind.
Pierre likely needs some things to fall in his favor to emerge as the frontrunner: LSU has to finish very strong, Grant and possibly Ford may have to turn a job offer down and there may have to be some indication that the salary requirement for some coaches on Bertman’s list is too high.
But the developing situation at Indiana creates a new domino effect that could play in Pierre’s favor. With a job as big as the Hoosiers about to open, there will be a lot of shifting and moving around the country, and Pierre could benefit.
However the search proceeds from here, one game won’t make Bertman’s decision — whether it’s LSU, VCU or UMass involved.

    Any more updates NBAOne?

What about our Atlanta boys in their high school hoops tourneys?

Today, the LA Top 28 tourney gets underway...

    http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/16176012.html.

We all note that the article does not mention any LSU commits. However, Storm Warren for Richwood should be playing. Also Langston Galloway, a LSU recruit in '10 will be lacin' it up for Christian Life. I'll be watching the box score for up and comers too. Those of us watching how Ole Miss :dis: will compete with LSU in years to come, can also watch Henry and Wilson, two LA recruits that will make us question whether the Atlanta boyz are a better pick up. :thumb:

The Lousiana Top 28 continues, and the finals are today for the most part.

Langston Galloway's team, Christian Life, won last night despite a less than spectacular night from Galloway. He remains a high priority for the Tigers in '10, considering this kid is scoring 23 points a game as a 6-3 sophomore guard. http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/16410451.html

Storm Warren's team, Richwood, plays tonight for the final against Wossman. http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/16409976.html An interesting sideline recruiting question for me is, if a new HC comes into the fold at LSU, and wants to sign a PG now, does he look at Davarius Dunn? Dunn is the smaller PG brother of Baylor signee LaceDarius Dunn, and arguably the best PG prospect still on the board in LA. At 5-9/5-10, he's a little undersized, but the kid can score and dish.

    http://baylor.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=62661

He also does not list LSU, but could an Anthony Grant (or Scott Drew for that matter) change his mind? I'd still take TMG in '09 and wouldn't want to jeopardize that, but could we pull off a nice late PG signing for '08?

As good as Graham/Harris/Warren/Morgan project to be the real question concerning next years roster is Randolph. If he comes back along with a healthy Mitchell LSU will be a team to watch in 08/09. Swift, Bass, Thomas & Davis all left early & that combined with the dropouts really hurt LSU. Just how good would LSU have been with those players staying for the full 4 years & Brady playing the dropouts (Grandsberry for one)enough to keep them here. If those four players has stayed a little longer LSU's success would have been a lot better. Maybe enough to sway players like Monroe to stay home. I think LSU has been hurt more by early departures for whatever the reason than any other team in the country.. I don't know if thats recruiting to good or not good enough. If Butch & crew or the new coach can continue to recruit that well & keep the players here for at least three years LSU will be among the nations elite. A true sleeping giant awaits someone..
