Two days after Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl ripped LSU for firing men's basketball coach John Brady, some other SEC coaches were a bit more measured on Monday.

"John and I have had a terrific relationship for a number of years," Florida coach Billy Donovan said. "I hope he's happy. I hope he's OK. I think he's a terrific coach and I think he's done a terrific job at LSU."

Donovan, though, didn't follow the lead of Pearl, who called Brady's firing "embarrassing."

"I think there's always more than meets the eye in all of that," Donovan said. "I haven't had a chance to talk to John in detail. I don't know if it was something maybe he wanted a change or mutually agreed upon. I didn't see his press conference."

Donovan doesn't see the midseason firing as a possible trend in college basketball.

"I think it's easy to look from the outside in and speculate and say who's right or wrong in a situation and draw reasons why this person is right or this person is wrong or the administration is right and John Brady is wrong. Or John Brady is right. The relationship between LSU, John, and his staff and the whole workings of that, I don't know if anybody has enough information to sit there and say this is a trend now in college basketball now."

South Carolina coach Dave Odom sees Brady's firing as a result of the changing landscape in college athletics.

"Let's face it college sports today, there's a huge trickle down from the NBA — in style of play, the way the players dress, monies flowing into college basketball staff-wise," Odom said.

"Coaches are making more money. I think today you've got a bigger emphasis on college basketball and winning and championships and things of that nature. I think it's nothing more than a trickle down from that."

Odom also refused to criticize LSU's decision saying, "we don't have information on that situation."

However, he praised Brady's coaching ability.

"From a coach's standpoint, and a peer standpoint, John Brady was and still is one of the best technical coaches in the SEC," Odom said. "I don't know anything about the situation at LSU. It would be unfair for me to make any kind of judgment about that.

"But I know from a coaching standpoint and from a person standpoint that John Brady is one of my favorite people. He's also one of the best coaches in this league."

Odom said Brady's situation would have changed dramatically if Glen "Big Baby" Davis and Tyrus Thomas had stayed at LSU instead of opting for the NBA.

"Let's not forget that this year, had things not changed personnel wise, he'd have Glen 'Big Baby' Davis as a senior, Tyrus Thomas would be a senior, Tasmin Mitchell had he not been hurt, would still be on that basketball team," Odom said.

"My guess is had those things not happened instead of being at the bottom of the Western Division he'd be at or near the top of all 12 teams. With those guys, nobody would have better talent than they and nobody would coach them better.

There is a big difference in opinon when one is coaching on opposite sides of the basketball arena vs being frustrated because the basketball team has not had the same success as football.
It appears that Brady won't be unemployed long. It would be interesting if he were to become Head Coach at Georgia and hire Dollar as his recruiter. ;) Rolaids would be in demand in BR.

Sure he will. Kentucky is having no trouble with their new hire, Gillespie. LSU is not Kentucky.

I'd like to see more presidents and athletic directors say this is embarrassing," Pearl said. "In the middle of a season. Wow, I'm embarrassed. I talked to him, every coach in this conference has called John Brady. It just doesn't make any sense. This is not the NBA."

ESPN commentator Dick Vitale went even further on the "Mike and Mike" radio show Monday, saying LSU should be ashamed for firing Brady during the season, two years after Brady guided the Tigers to the Final Four.

"What are we getting to in college athletics that we fire coaches with 10 or 11 games left in a season because they haven't won sufficiently?" Vitale said. "I say shame on you to those athletic administrators that made that kind of decision. If it's a reason that he's violated the morals part of a contract or the ethics part of a contract, I understand. But come on, firing coaches? That's in the NBA, the NHL and Major League Baseball."

THEY JUST WON'T LEAVE THIS (JB) thing ALONE WHERE WILL BRADY GO!

    TALK'S ARE HERE IN GA????
